The cache doesnt make much of a difference. Your better off going for a quad core or waiting for the penryn.
noob question how much more power does a e6750 have over a p4 3.0ghz ? when 1vs1 core is tested ?

That's like testing a motorcycle against a car by taking off two of the car's wheels, i.e. massively ignoring a major part of the comparison.

There are lots of benchmarks around, but basically it'd come down to clock freq. and cache size on a 1 core test.

The E6850 and E6750 are already on sale in the UK for pre-orders. The E6850 is £182.16 and the E6750 is £138.68. Not too bad for their clockspeeds.

when is the penryn out?

thanks

i think intel have said early q4, so my bet is september/october. I will be hopefully be getting a quad core penryn (if there any good!)

e6850 is too expensive, intel has priced it the same as e6600 used to be, hence it should be £150-160.

Can't believe that it says in that URL that in the games it lets you choose from, my e6400 is around 15 FPS less in games than a e6600 :/ That seems a bit off.

But thats at really low resolutions, where the cpu is the only bottleneck. For normal people with screen sizes bigger than 800x600 it becomes much less noticable.

I can concur to that i got a free upgrade i say free i had a 6300 and got a 6320 for doing someones pc which i use now, they only thing i can really notice the extra 2mb cache is using winrar, encoding things doesn't seem to make much difference.

I must admit, the OCing is pretty average if they are maxing out at 3.8GHz @1.5V on an E6850...... And 3.57Ghz max from the E6550 isnt great either.

E6400- 3.26GHz @ 1.31V :D

i plan on picking up a xeon quad core when penryn comes out, cheap.

I dont NEED the extra power of quad core over my e6300, but it would be nice as potentially the cpu is the only thing letting my system down now.

I think that i shall be upgrading when the prices for penryn and P35 chipset motherboards stabilise a bit, so maybe more towards christmas just after.

Will maybe have a look at the GFX too, but at the moment i see no need in getting anything for such a small % increase.
