Okay,

i was happily playing source, happily on my c2q 6600 when suddnely pc died.

tried to up the voltage, thought it may be a stability issue (although proved stable in benchmarks)

winwdows wouldnt boot.

decided to drop it to default in bios and still wouldnt boot windows.

CPU Was previously running 3026Mhz - memory around 1062Mhz DDR2

Mem volts @ 2.2V - CPU Vcore was about 1.45

Temp on load around 57 degrees. (stock cooling)

NOW

Reset BIOS and pc still wont boot, and i got a message at bios earlier saying Inoperable CPU, please edit Softmenu settings in BIOS.

Tried playing around, it gets to the windows xp loading screen and crashes.

got it last week and running on an IP35 Vanilla by Abit.

Memory is Corsair XMS2 6400C4 stuff running fine too.

GPU is 8800GTS 640Mb Ed.

Any ideas people?

Its the B3 stepping.

its not from overclockers, but ill be okay just resetting the cpu settings to default and sending it back to the vendor for rma?

well it was when i changed the cpu voltage. also when bios loaded it came up that inoperable CPU message.

cpu is cold booting at 1.6ghz per core also, and thats default settings in BIOS.

dnt think ive got another machine to try it in :\ doubt it would be anything else tho, unless it could be the graphics card since when it boots windows it just dies on the loading screen.

i read a review on it and heard it would go upto that stable. any higher it was causing issues.

ill defo have a play around and see if i can resolve the issue without rma'ing parts. memory is testing fine at post also, ill update in an hour or so

thanks for all your input guys its been great!

okay thats weird.

put the computer horizonatally on my desk, plugged in a ps2 keyboard and monitor.

removed one ram stick to inspect it, then replaced it.

noticed a 4 pin male molex on the mobo above the graphics card that had ATX4P1 Next to it. stuck a molex onto it and away she went fine and dandy...

strange strange computer.

one other thing tho, when rebooting or turning the machine on, it powers up for about 3-4 seconds with no post. then turns off for a few secs then turns back on and posts.

any idea why? this is when i reboot & start the machine up.

doubt it, im running super PI just now, speed fan is recognising temps okay, and super PI has the application spread out over all 4 cores, full cpu running at 25%.

i see :|

well NOW whats happening, (everything at stock) the windows loading screen is now completeing, but it wont boot into windows, and when it does it crashes when booted. i.e. unable to use keyboard/mouse etc.

really strange :| checked voltages earlier when i got in, 12 volt rails solid, and vcore seems fine too, sits at 1.2-1.3

assuming this may be a faulty part of my cpu, is there anyway i can run the cpu to 100% each core? least then ill be able to see if infact the cpu is an issue.

super pi wont run multiple times and only gets cpu to 30%

EDIT ::

Okay could this be a disk issue? ive got a 250gb sata 2 hdd running with 3 partitions. but now its showing my 3 partitions + 2 new unpartitioned spaces, 1 for 4294767299MB (holy ****) and another for 199998Mb (free 200gb cool!)

ive currently got 3 partitions, one for windows 9994Mb, another for my games 199997Mb nd another for backup 28475Mb

think it could be a hdd issue?

Have you not tried doing a clean install yet?

doing it just now mate
EDIT : As it seems to be installing fine with no issues so far, could that eliminate any chances of it being a fault cpu?

EDIT 2 : I rebooted windows and again it wouldnt even hit load screen. But i remember how i got it to boot last time, i removed my usb devices. So i done it this time and it restarted setup no problem at all.

Could this now be some sort of BIOS issue in relation to usb?

okay right now the computer doesent properly boot windows when usb devices are plugged in. with them unplugged it boots absolutly fine

EDIT: Now with multiple attempts booting system with USB devices plugged in, it just doesent get past the windows logo screen.

But with PS/2 keyboard, it boots fine.

ive got a OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU

This is now without and with mobo drivers installed.

i have a 2407WFP Monitor and i plugged keyboard into back of the machine, dell monitor has themouse plugged in and then that hub is plugged into the other usb port.

now have mouse and keyboard plugged directly into the motherboard and system is booting first time, and restarting fine with no problems. + its VERY fast :| lol not unusual for a machine this spec tho, fresh install.

seems to be all good now, really weird tho

Ive had a C2D E6320 die on me before, i just didnt get a display on my monitor at all, tried different gfx cards, RAM, mobo. Took it to OcUK and they declared it dead so i got a replacement :)

Lol well !!!

it does happen im sure,

ive reinsallted windows and i now have each of my usb devices plugged into seperate usb ports on the motherboard. Theres been no issues since with stability etc. ill leave cpu at stock speed etc just now until i can get a lga775 block for my w/c system and a new case, then ill pump it up.

great chips i have to say tho. sooooo damn quick.

Anyway, guys i really appreciate the input you've all given, and now the prob is solved! keep up the good work, and next time im sure to read the o/c guide :P

thanks again
