Core 2 Quads - Who still using them?

I'm still using my Q6600 (stock) but looking to upgrade now because I get a lot of lag in big battles when playing Diablo 3, even on low settings and resolutions, making me think the CPU is my bottleneck not my HD6870. I also play Starcraft 2 and Civ 5, which are both CPU intensive in big battles (especially near the end game of Civ 5). The cost is putting me off tho, over £300 to upgrade, especially if i want to keep the machine as quiet as it is at the moment.

I was till about a month ago I got my 3570k, made my Q6600 seem third world. Still got the Q6600 though, hard to part with it, will probably use it in a spare pc...

Try and overclock it to at least 3.2GHz and u'll notice a difference in any CPU intensive game.

still running a q9550 @ 3.8ghz in an abit IP35-e board lol , longest I have ever owned a board and it was a cheapo! I can't see the point in upgrade at present and will wait for haswell. From the game benchmarks I care about I am only seeing 10-20% increase and thats a poor return on investment in my eyes.

As above. Had a C2D but found a C2Q (X9650) going cheap on eBay a year ago and it's served me well. Seems to be a good match for my 570GTX. All current games run just fine. Will wait until late 2013 until the new consoles arrive before upgrading - as it won't be until then that we will see new games pushing hardware further, IMHO.

here link to my post on the asus striker II extreme forum if you look at post six i post what setting i am using to get it stable at 3.4ghz.

Hey err thanks for that but it still just crashed even after having gradually been upped to 1.4v and all cpu controllers disabled.
Also there's no such thing as 8.5 multiplier on this board so I'm guessing that was a mistake :p

mine cpu is q9550 which is max is 8.5 yours is a q6600 go which has a max of 9 multiplier. i posted link to my setting so you could use it as a rough guide to to help you get yours stable.

Still using my Q6600, it's been a great chip. Although a new system with a 3570k is in the pipeline, so it'll be demoted a little. Still plan to use it as a second PC for many years to come though :).

I'm still using a Q6600 at stock 2.4GHz, though I am researching the procedure for overclocking it to 3 GHz, i've read the pencil mod thread, but with my visual impairment (i don't have depth perception, i can only really see through one eye), the last thing i want to do is start stabbing my motherboard with a semi-sharp object.

If i did upgrade my cpu, i'd need a whole new board and ram too, bit extreme at the moment, since my q6600 pretty much does me well most of the time, i can just overclock it if i need it, just need to find out how. i have to do some more digging i think.

Sold my Q9650/MB/RAM for around £350, so my upgrade to the 3770K cost me little more than £200 over all. Although then went and spent another £300 on a GTX670.

Happy with my upgrade but in hindsight the Q9650 could have quite easily lasted me another year. With a GTX570 BF3 was playable on Ultra with shadows/motion blur turned down.
