Core 2 Vs Core i7

thats at the moment but with the extra power of the 295 it should be more future proof, and ssd's do make a difference i went from a western digital 320gb boot drive to an ocz core series ssd and my boot time was reduced by 7 seconds, photoshop loads in 3 rather than 8 seconds and plus windows is a lot more responsive

Thats a big difference to you? Seriously this is someones money. Spending that much to save 7 seconds on a boot or 5 seconds on photo shop is kinda well, a waste to put it nicely.

It is better, but with this rig it will hardly be noticeable.

And a 295 is barely more future proof than a 4870x2; once the 4870x2 goes obsolete there's not gonna be much hope for the 295, and certainly not long enough to justify the expense on longeivity alone.

I'd get the SSD if you're bothered about the noise, they're simply not that much more responsive in an already quick system to make the price tag. Just because a budget is there doesn't mean it has to be spent.

i7 at that price from me too. Were you looking around the 1500 mark id have voted for core 2 though.

SSD drives are excellent, favorite part of my system.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll definately go with the 4870x2 and probably skip on the SSD unless there are any deals when I buy.

that is a big difference if you compare the overall time it takes and what kind of percentage this equates too. this could mean his times are 30% faster. that is a lot.

i would vote for a velociraptor... at the moment the best choice for speed vs cost..

SSD are still too expensive , imo

I've left the PSU out as Overclockers doesn’t sell it. It's the Silverstone Decathlon 1200. I've read very good reviews about it and I like the fact it's 100% modular so that would take me roughly just over £2000. I want to then spend around £450 on water cooling the CPU and GPU.

...

What do you guys think?

My opinion is that this PSU would be hideously over-specced for the rest of your setup

You're looking to run a lot less than I am, and I've only got a 750w. Save yourself £125 and get something else (Corsair/Enermax).

I do agree with you to a certain extent and I have been thinking a lot about which PSU to get. I recently purchased the Psychopack sleeving kit and I want to sleeve all of the PSU (including atx 24) I get and I've heard that it doesn’t void the warranty if it's a Silverstone PSU. I also like the fact it's 100% modular.

I have a budget of £230 so it would be great if you could suggest something else? Saving money is good because it means you can spend it on other things.:D

The modular system on the Be Quiet PSU's is very good, I love my Dark Power Pro 850w, the 750 would run your system easy and is also cheaper.

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at them.

I will be overclocking the 920 though so I want a PSU that will keep me going for a long time with plenty of power to spare.

So what, it loads 7 seconds faster. Dont put it into percentages to try and justify it being a big thing. That is a total waste of money, i cant beleive anyone would want to spend that much just to get on their pc 7 seconds faster.

Maybe if it was 8 seconds but totally not worth it for 7.:D

The 850 powers the system in my sig plus water pump, with 13 large fans and 6 sata drives and I will at some point add another 280 GTX and I'm sure it will still be fine.

Yeah I'm looking at the 850 one at the moment. Cheers again,

Maybe it's 30% faster... but it's still 7 seconds. You'd get a better result by switching the pc on then removing your coat, rather than the other way round, when you come into the house.

O totaly, id be gettin a right boner of it if it was 8 lol. Some people spend to much time in their pc and not enough time in the real world.

Yeah, exacly if you8 had an SSD as well youd probably have to buy a super expensive coat that you can take off 7 seconds faster as well!
