Core i7-4960X "Ivy Bridge-E" Roughly 10% Faster than i7-3970X: Early Tests

You dont need to. Just leave it at AUTO. In OS enable the Nvidia Force gen 3 patch which forces gen 3 at driver level. This is the only way to get gen 3 working with an Nvidia 6 series GPU on the X79 platform.

When I say I get no display, I mean I don't even see the POST screen when the PC turns on. The monitor just goes into standby mode without displaying anything. If the Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock LEDs on my keyboard flash and there's no picture I know its gone wrong. A reset will often fix this, although not always.

I also don't remember there being a AUTO setting, just GEN3, GEN2 and possibly GEN1.

Wish Intel would hurry up and release these. Keen to get a 4930K as an upgrade to my 3820 which can be a limiting factor with my xfired 7970's.

No rush IMO, the new round of 2011 motherboards aren't out yet, we have the Rampage V Extreme and EVGA Dark to look forward to.

Is a RVE confirmed? I know the DARK is but to be fair EVGA really needed to bring out a new X79 board, their last lot was plagued with bios issues.

Googaly is completely right. Certainly on my Rampage IV Formula, if I set the bios as "gen 3" which is PCI-E 3.0 mode, and I haven't manually changed the registry settings to enable PCI-E 3.0, there is often no display at all from the GPUs. CHanging manually to "gen 2" fixes this issue.

In addition, PCI-E 3.0 is hit and miss I find despite the manual registry change to enable it. I find on my board it doesn't work properly and I get huge fluctuations in fps when benching in SLI.

The new X79 boards should fix all that.

You on the latest Bios???

Good to know that it will use the same socket.

I remember the good old socket 775, not having to have a new socket for each new chip as we currently do with Intel.
