Core i7 Benchmarks

all the hype around them is probably inflating the price, when they dont sell like hot cakes and everyone and there granny doesnt switch there system over to the new socket then hopefully the prices will fall to a more tempting level.

silly prices, I'am waiting till March for upgrade, looks like a grand on a upgrade , and the memory modules with six 4 gb sticks, with ssd raid 0 drives should be nice.

they do look quite good for us q6600 or E8** owners but i you guess if you were looking to upgrade from a oc'ed q9*** series then you would be abit disapointed

it does look like a good leap in performance

but a x28 multi! :O

Not if you look at the other reviews out now especially if you run xfire or SLI where performance currently actually drops!

Hmm the cost for DDR3, the CPU costs the X58... for only 25% max increase.. hmmm..

Yeah, that's the slight issue I'd run in to aswell, could probably piece up the older ones into a older chasis and sell it or something

Could this launch be a bit like when the pentium followed the 486, a very well developed chip that was clocked to the max, 486 DX4 outperformed the p60....

Interesting times

I dont think Nehalem will be very much worth it until sandy bridge.
Unless you are like me that is, and are still stuck on a pentium until after xmas money is recieved.

yea, but is sandy bridge a high end product and which nehalem socket will sandy bridge be using? or will we be needing an entirely new socket yet again?

As far as im aware, westmere, intel's next high end desktop processor for Socket LGA1366, will be due late 2009, early 2010, but sandy bridge is supposed to be due in 2010 as well.

The only reason way im asking this is because, all us high end users will be going Socket LGA1366, but if sandy bridge is intel's next high end desktop product, an even higher end product than westmere, will that mean, all us high end users will need to change to another socket again?

ahhh.... Stupid me!
I actually meant to say Westmere, But looking at it now, Sandy Bridge is due out very soon after Westmere anyway. (Edit: nope, I'm being stupid again... Its a full year after westmere)

Edit: Yup... Still no clue what socket S.B. will be on. I would imagine something much smaller than 1366 due to the 32nm shrink and then following 22nm shrink. Although, for the sake of appeasing the 1366 customers I imagine they may even keep the same socket teirs as nehalem.

Well, the only other processor that I know of being high end Socket LGA1366 compatible, is Westmere, but after that, I don`t know what`s next for this socket.
