Core i7 is here!

Not really in the mood for posting a big review or anything. Plenty of sites with that.

First I tested if my OCZ Core V1 drives work ok on the new chipset and yes they do.

And quick Cinebench

Need to get rid of this stock cooler. With the switch on Q its way louder than HAF 932 fans and on P its stupid loud. Roll on some 1366 kits.

Also need to RTFM because all these new bios settings are doing my head in.

Someone start an Asus P6T thread with a guide or something to the bios :P Would be great :D Right now just running everything on Auto (I'm a newb I know...)

Loving the performance though, just encoded some Full HD video in Vegas from the Canon HF10 in under 20min which before with these settings would have taken 45min to an hour on the QX6700. Pretty impressed so far!

I think in the next few months there will be lots of threads on here on how to overclock these babies at 4GHz and higher on the most popular Motherboards. I can`t wait till I get mine next year :D

You get mounts for a 40mm northbridge fan and also the stand up type fan for if you use watercooling.

That is putting me off the board... Does it say it is a necessity in the manual? The board already has a large heatsink on spreading around it...

Its an option. With the stock intel cpu cooler my mobo temps are good but I guess with a tower cooler there is not so much air over the board so you could fit the optional fan.
Guess it depends on voltages and clockspeeds also.

The big blower fan is only for watercooling though.

What size SSD's are you using in RAID. I was thinking of getting either two 60GB or two 30GB if I could get away with it. These are a great price at the moment - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...5-OC&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=910&name=OCZ Core V2 30GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-2C30G)

I'm unsure of what size I will require using Vista x64.

I'm going getting a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD1001FALS) for storage also so the SSD's will only be for the OS.

Cheers,
Marcus

I have 3 of the 64gb ones for os, software and games. Then 4TB of NAS for backup, storage, music , movies etc. I then map folders so its like having internal HDDs.

Perfect, thanks for the replies.

I'll hold of on the 30GB ones so.

I never taught of NAS for the storage\backup. Would it be a better option than getting the internal drives?

Its better for me because I can access my files no matter what PC or laptop I am on over the network without having to worry if my main PC is on/working or not ;) .
If you just have 1 PC then internal is fine.

I have a PC, laptop, and on route to building a second PC. It could be handy to have everything accessible for all machines I suppose.

Would a NAS SATA caddy be a good option and place a few 1TB drives in it or buy a NAS with the storage already included?
