I have core i7 920 not a DO with 6 gb corsair 1333 ram. i oc to 3.3 and run cpu burn test on high and it just fails all the time, i have set all voltages to normal voltages any help would be great getting it stable i am new with overclocking core i7.

I am using a gigabyte UD3R with latest bios.

Mine kept failing all the time too, it turned out my DRAM voltage needed to be turned up, because my mobo (The same 1 as you) set the value too low for what it's rated for.

If I were you, keep the vcore at 1.2V - also ensure that you change the memory multiplier so that when you increase the BCLK it does not overclock the RAM. Also, ensure that RAM is running at manufacturer specified speeds, voltage and timings.

Also, what temperatures are you getting before and during Intel Burn test fails? Additionally, what CPU cooler are you using?

I am using a intel cooler hence why im only going to 3.3. when i OC to 3.3 the memory is at 1650 the multiplier is 10.0 i think should i drop it to 1345?

Recorded temps and it failed again.

core 0 highest was 100

core 1 97

core 2 94

core 3 95

I dropped memory multiplier to 1320 aswell every thing is set to default volts and stuff i tried vcore at 1.3 still failed. the guy i bought it off said he did 3.8 with this chip but he had third party cooler.

So what is the problem is heat my enemy on this one or have i got a setting wrong? the test did mention heat.

Im looking into buying a titan fenrir in few weeks.

Those temps are way too high, i suggest overclocking with anything like those settings until you get a decent third party cooler. The titan fenrir is a good cooler in that regard. This is my favourite one at the minute.

As for the overclock - the probelm you have is simply temps. Raising the volts isn't required - i'm on 3.6GHz @ 1.19Vcore using the same processor. It was good you dropped the RAM as it was running heavily overclocked before.

If I were you, try 1.19V and 3.0-3.2 GHz - slowly raise up the BCLK and check the load temps. If it starts getting a bit warm (70s) - then leave it there and go no higher.

Im not into water cooling mate bit extreme for me, im hoping to possible do 4 ghz in the future like i said guy i bought it off got it at 3.8 stable.

I will wait until i get new cooler, games run better oced to 3.3 lol.

High temps aswell

Yeah i'm having to hold back on my OC at the moment due to heat so I am stuck waiting for Corsair H50 (like a lot of folks) to get the temps under control. I have had it upto 3.3ghz but temps went above 90c but I have the voltages on auto CPUID says 1.378v at 3.3ghz so would I get away with say 1.278v-1.3v might but back on the heat a bit?

That's why you don't use auto volts... It would be a lot cooler on 1.25V than on nearly 1.4, not just a little.

The chip turns off at somewhere just over 95 I believe, so that would be a sign that it's far too hot. The aftermarket cooler is pretty much required to overclock processors.

Yeah! (for now)

I now have it running at 3.2ghz @ 1.25v and under load the temps hit 80c on the stock cooler but this will have to do while the H50 seems to be in limbo.
At least at 3.2 with the 10x I can get the 1600mhz out of my XMS3 6GB at 8-8-8-20 but couldn't get the rated 7-7-7-20...but happy enough so another 6GB on the way...no wonder the chip was hitting 90+ CPUZ is reporting 1.232v when its 1.25v in bios...so acounting for the same on auto volts is was giving the chip 1.4v @ 3.2
