Core temp - A8 5600K

I've recently built a second PC around an A8 5600K processor and overall, for the price I'm very happy.

One thing that is bugging me though is that Core Temp doesn't seem able to report the temps on this CPU. It has a reading of zero with a question mark beside it.

Initially I thought that maybe the CPU temp sensor was broken, but the MSI BIOS reports the CPU temp which leads me to conclude that the CPU is not at fault.

Any ideas? If the CPU is at fault I'll RMA it.

if you go to control panel click on device manager and under processors it should have your cpu model in i.e (AMD FXtm-8150 eight core processor) that is what mine shows and it has it 8 times

With apologies, I'm not sure I understand the question?

Select your start button and where you have Computer (or My Computer for Window XP) right click on it and select properties and there will be a device manager option on the top left of the window. Windows XP will show a tab at the top.

It should look like this, but showing your CPU instead:

Thanks for the help so far.

The CPU does appear with 4 entries in the Device Monitor so it would appear to be ok on that front.

I'm using version 1.0 RC5. Sitting and watching it for a while I've noticed that it doesn't always sit on zero - sometimes it goes to 5 Degrees and even once up to 20 Degrees. But then it goes back to zero and a question mark.

HWiNFO reports 'N/A' against each core on Thermal Monitoring.

I guess there is a fault with the CPU's temp sensor then?
