I am trying to tweak my newish build to run smoothly and having various problems. One of them seems to be my core temps on my E6600 duo are rather high, and I am not even OCing yet.

I'm using the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775).

System:
E6600 core duo
680i mobo
2 gig OCZ 8500 ram
etc

What other info would I need to supply? Thanks in advance for any advice.

have you tried reseating the cooler? and have you applied thermal paste?
No I haven't tried reseating it yet though that could be an option. I didn't use any paste apart from what came already on it, should I have?

I just checked bios under system monitor and it gives totally different readings of:
CPU - 42c
Board - 41c
MCP - 62c

And here's a screencap of Nvidia monitor:

So which readings are correct? It's still a little high at 42 though isn't it?

Thanks for the reply, I'm guessing that the 42c reading is correct and that the CoreTemp program is giving the wrong reading? I'm using Vista so maybe it doesn't run correctly on that or something? So my temp of 42 is ok then?

When opening CoreTemp make sure you "Run as Administrator" (right click). That may be the cause of the strange temps. Also try Speedfan and Intel Thermal Analysis Tool and when opening them "Run As Administrator" or they will not function correctly.
I find both Speedfan and CoreTemp to give pretty much the same temps but TAT to be about 20c higher for some reason.
