Core temp (latest version) on vista gives me 50C idle, but speedfan and Hmonitor says 35C idle. Is Core Temp giving me the wrong temp because of some problems it has with Vista?

I believr core temp takes the temp directly from the die itself, rather than some exterior source, but with the difference you have quoted I would definately re-check the set up

Correct, coretemp reads from the thermal resistor in the cpu itself, whereas speedfan and your other monitor prog most likely read from the bios or the cpu motherboard sensor which is not the same thing.

In other words, the 35c being reported by speedfan is the temp at the motherboard near the cpu socket, and it may be correct, but unfortunately it's not actually your cpu temp...

In most cases of 3 temp readings, you'd naturally go with the 2 that say the same, but only where the 3 temp readings are taken from the same source.

ok, thanks for the help. i have checked the cooler (arctic freezer pro7) and it is sitting on there good, the clips are all pushed down firmly and I have used thermal paste. I dunno what else to try.

i don't trust speedfan. maybe its just my system, but what speedfan says often contradicts other sensors;.

not sure tbh but ive got the same cpu as you and mines idling at 42 degrees aswell hits 75 when running orthos, its at 2.6Mhz but even at stock settings its ideling at 40 degrees.

iam using the arctic pro7 aswell
