Core Temp very high

Hi there folks,

I have a Conroe 6600 and am quite concerned as speedfan (4.32 beta)is reporting both my core temperatures as being around 58C at idle :eek:

(I am not overclocking running at out of box 2.4Gz) I am running an arctic cooler pro 7 cooler and reading other posts in this excellent forum I gather this to be quite excessively hot. I have checked and rechecked that the cooler is seated correctly do you think I need to add some more Thermal paste ??

Any ideas ?

My e6300 was idle'ing at about 50 until i turned off the smart fan control in the bios...this was slowing and stopping the fan, unless it went higher

Turned off the control, and the idle temp went down to about 35

58 is what I get now when its having a long session of orthos

Make sure you freezer 7 is sitting flush with the cpu. Lay your pc down (assuming it is a tower) and check your temps then. I had a bad fitting freezer 7 pro which was sent back and i got a refund.

sorry to hijack but i have an e6300 @ 3GHz with an scythe infinity cooler idle at 43c and orthos testing both cores at 54c, is that ok? The fan on my infinity is at 1000 RPM so it nice and quiet too.
