Core2Duo build to replace my 939 Shuttle! Advice Please!

Yea im an OcUK fanboi myself mainly, maybe the odd sneaky buy elsewhere on a special offer or sumot. Customer service has always been great and discovering this forum shows it has a good community behind it which is helping me get a clue about hardware technology and other stuff.

Understand where you're coming from completely like but I think its fair enough people are looking value for money over loyalty.

t31os' or my advised rigs would be superior to that listed by Clowned due to them having double the memory.

Also, you mentioned the case was £47... i take it that is included in the £385 total?

Either way it won't perform as well due to the ram and although the Zalman's good it is a slightly older design which the Mine (highly rated by a lot of users) will most probably beat.

On top of that the Gigabyte boards are some of the most highly rated budget performance boards around. They clock excellently and have a well regarded support and RMA service.

I appreciate your opinion t31os, didnt mean to be cheeky in anyway, and im trying to get the best for what money i'll have available, so ive been looking around! I have always purchased from wherever I will get the best prices and have spent plenty of money on ocuk in the past 4-5 years because they are always very competitive, like you ive sent stuff back to ocuk too, and never had a problem with them :)

You're probably right about sticking with the GeiL ddr, it sounds like it will do me great for £400, id think id rather have the 2Gb than spending the extra on better stuff thats only 1gb!! I still have to get rid of my 939 stuff before i do any buying!

Fair enough, im asking as i dont know a lot about intel setups in general, i dont know what fsb you need to get out of the ram to obtain a nice overclock which was why i looked for the faster memory. Your comments are all taken onboard! :)
Any idea what sort of overclock from an average c2d e6320 would i get with the GeiL ddr2?

I got my Geil ULL (recently sold it) to 470mhz with very slack timings and on a Gigabyte DS3 revision 1 motherboard. That would get your e6320 to just under 3.3ghz (3.29ghz exactly).

To get 3ghz (which is an entirely acceptable overclock) would only require a 429mhz fsb. The geil should get there with a mild over volt at stock or ever so slightly loosened timings.

Easy peasy! :)

awesome. thanks for the info!

think ill go for that with the mine cooler! :) cheers!
No probs mate!

Plenty on the forums with that type of kit so anything you need to know... just ask! :)

When i upgraded my DVD encoding time went from 40 minutes with an Opteron 165 @ 2.95ghz to 11 minutes with my [email protected]. Nice improvement!
