Im wondering if I should upgrade while my gear is still worth good money?

Q9650 @ 3.8Ghz for everyday (will bench at 4.2)
Asus P5QPro Turbo
2x2Gb HyperX PC8500

To be fair, my rig is still standing the test of time really well but I reckon I can upgrade to a 2600K + Gigabyte Z77D3-H + 8Gb ram for maybe £50 more?

Someone plz tell me I'm right, wrong or misinformed?

No price checks outside of MM, but no, it'll cost more than £50. Your computer just isn't worth much anymore.

It's quick enough, but not many people want to buy the old FSB kit when so many better options are out there.

The core 2 quads still fetch a decent price, as do decent DDR2 kits.

I did a similar upgrade a year or so ago and its well worth it if you're gaming.

got to make the jump at some point. may as well be now, you will not more then £50 after selling your stuff

Q9650s fetch around £100-£120 on the bay, so that's not true. The RAM is quite easy to sell too.

and your MoBO will get around £50 ram £20

so your looking at £170(+£50) so you think you can get a i5k system for £220 ok

must be cheap used parts? in that case don't you think its a bit rude to ask for advice on a shop's forum. :p

EVER way if you think you can afford it do it, 100% better system

Surprisingly enough, that kit is worth quite the pretty penny. High end 775 gear and PC2-8500 RAM have held their value over the past few years; better so than SB era hardware.

It would be wise to make the jump if your figures are correct. :)

As mentioned above, top end S775 still goes for good money.
I was thinking of getting a second hand 2600k for the same as I'd get for my 9650, the DDR3 is half the price of DDR2. Only leaves me about 50 quid to find for the mobo after selling my Asus?
Is it night and day performance wise?

You're looking around £120+ for a used 2600K, that's my current take on the MM prices as I've been looking myself!

I'm running a Q6600, 6GB OCZ Reaper 8500 on an Asus P5Q Deluxe and as of yet I've not thought it's viable changing to SB.

2600K is the range I'm looking at, but prices have not persuaded me yet...

I'm thinking a top end clocked 775 might be the 'stop-gap' I need for 6 months+ (as my Q6600 is running stock). If you come to sell your Q9650 I'll definitely be interested ;) What cooling have you been running on it?

you need to stop that convo now, ppl get banned for buying outside the MM.

So you think it's rude to use MM which is set up for trading used parts? (by the shop as well) Weird...

Anyways, Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz ordered from OCUK. On this week only offer.

Any advice on best budget Z77 mobo clocker? Probably from OCUK unless I can find one second hand... ahem
