Been told by a friend about this - apparently you put a contact lens like thing in your eye at night, and when you wake up, you can see perfect.

At the start you have to wear them everyday, then as time goes on , eventually you bring it down to once every 2 weeks.

This sounds good! Would love to not bother wearing contacts and glasses, but is it safe and has anyone tried it?

Cheers :)

I've heard of it too but I really can't see how sleeping in a contact lens can be any good for your eyes, especially one that is presumably going to be pressing your eye into a funny shape to correct your vision.

I've never heard of this before. But if you are interested in this kind of thing, have you heard of the Bates method? its a book by William Bates, (an ophthalmologist) and he maintains that wearing glasses and contact lenses can only ever (in the long term) weaken/make eyes worse. It's a very interesting read and in my case, (I wear glasses for driving - short sighted) I have noticed that every few years I need to have slightly stronger lenses). The 1st half of the book explains his theory and method (basically eye exercises - it comes with a reading chart to do these) and the results of trials using it, and the second half of the book contains the exercises. I found it a very interesting read, but I haven't yet attempted his eye exercises. (it's one of my new years resolutions).

It is definitely worth a read though.

Sounds like giving yourself eye strain.

Your eyes naturally decay over time, just like your other senses and every optician and doctor I've spoken to about it have laughed at the notion that wearing glasses makes your eyesight decay faster.

actually at the moment, I'm inclined to agree with you and I'm not saying this Bates guy is right. my main point is though that the book is worth a read and (if you can be bothered) it's worth giving those exercises a try as it can't do any harm.

That's also complete cobblers and, like the method mentioned by the OP, is based on a woeful misunderstanding of how the eye works, and why it sometimes doesn't work properly. And ophthalmologist will happily explain why the Bates theory is completely stupid.
