Hi, just wondered whether anybody here has been to Cornwall, and if so what parts are the nicest and the best places to go, I am looking to go Mid July, and am looking for a nice beach but not as interested in the clubs and stuff, but bars and pubs are a must!!

Any help would be gratefully recieved,

Thanks

My missus originally come from cornwall, a place called Truro so I shall ask her when she comes back from the shop.

for crying out loud, boscastle is like 90% of the other cornish fishing villeges, small, nothing realy of note other than it got destroyed last year (iirc)
better beaches are over towards Hayle/St Ives area, including camping etc, but few bars I'd say

I know nothing about Truro but this is what my missus said.

BEACHES

Newquay
Perranporth beach
St agnes
Portowam beach

ATTRACTIONS/PLACES TO VISIT

Royal Cornwall museum
Mostly history
Eden Project
8th wounder of the world in her words
National Marine Aquarium
speaks for itself

**EDIT***

She says don't go to Camborme because it's chav central.

Did you want to stay in a holiday park or camp site or hotel or what? Also as said above, truro is a city damn it! ;)

jen, I'd try contacting some of the cornwall members
<-----------------
and talking to them about what your ACTUALY looking for.

Used to live in Truro whilst I was studying - lovely place to go and do a degree!

Perranporth beach is nice, with the Watering Hole. Watch out though, the beach and pub is RAMMED in the summer. The Blue Bar up at Porthtowan is good also, and it's a lovely setting again, but also RAMMED to bursting in the height of summer. Both places have good bands on a couple of times a week - used to play at both myself - and that's always worth checking out. If you're into live music, head over to the cove at St. Agnes and find the Driftwood Spars hotel. They have a tiny little bar at the end where they put on live bands 2/3 times a week - and it's always an awesome atmosphere. I believe Queen played there once upon a time....

Other personal favourite beaches are Chapel Porth on the north coast, and Portleven on the south. Avoid Newquay, it's chav central.

Falmouth and Truro are your best bet for a night out. L2 is truro is a bit of a dive, but I've had many a good night in there. There's a good bar called the MI Bar on the quay in Truro, which is also nice to sit outside in the summer.

yup, L2 is best avoided unless unavloidably.
the watering hole is home to the most expencive beer in cornwall/devon iirc

I used to live about 2 minutes walk from L2, so it was frequented on an unfortunately regular basis. Still, it's the company that determines how good a night out is, not the venue!

I'd forgotten about the prices at the WH. They stick a quid (or more) on the price of everything in the summer IIRC. Beer's normal price in the winter, then silly expensive in the summer. Still, you get to drink it sitting on the sand, watching the sun go down

yeah, I don't go there anymore, they have banned kites on the beach (well, supposedly, they town concle contacted the lifeguards and told them not to let people with kites on the beach, and tbh neither of those groups have the power to stop people using kites there. bunch of fashist ********)

I've been going to Cornwall every year for my holidays since I was yay (sp?) high. In fact I just come back from a week down there this Saturday just gone. Had a beautiful week weather wise, even got in the sea for a swim and a bit of diving, water wasn't warm but wasn't freezing. It was fine with a wetsuit on.
Mainly just go to beaches really. Caerhays beach, Carne beach are both nice. Also went to Cape Cornwall, Harlyn Bay (lovely beach, massive when the tides out), and a couple of others. Holywell Bay and Mawgan Porth are another two nice beaches. There's not so many beaches we can go as we have two dogs, but there's still a lovely selection really.
I just love the place, going back there again next month! :) If this weather keeps up then the sea should be quite warm, might not even need a wetsuit! :D
