correct method for installing crossfire?

hi there, my new pc should be coming later on this week - and i was wondering if someone could tell me the correct method for installing 2x 3870's in a Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 motherboard.

i.e. which bios settings are needed, correct place to put them on the motherboard, drivers - and anything else you can think of.

Put both cards in the electrical 16x slots, connect Xfire cables, download the latest drivers, power on and install drivers, reboot and enable Xfire.

Job done.

that simple? i've read posts where you've needed to change the bios settings to get it to work - so theres nothing i need doing in on the asus board?

how much of a hit is it if you have a 965 chipset and one slot is only x4 ?

does it make a negligable difference - or enough to make crossfire not worthwhile ?
