For years i have done pressups/situps and chinups as part of my general fitness to go along with the running i do but recently after seeing some squaddies doing pressups im wondering if ive been doing it wrong

When im doing pressups i have my hands roughly in line with my chest and shoulder width apart, when lowering down my elbows go outwards.

However squaddies seem to do them with the elbows at the side

Am i doing them wrong  Or is it just different ways of doing them?

Ive tried doing them keeping arms at the side and struggle to bang out 4 or 5 :o

Elbows inwards puts more strain on the triceps I think, as you say the military are very keen on that position as opposed to wide elbows.

Keep your hands pointing forwards, not inwards - that should give you better technique.
