Hi Guys,

Just wondered what process you use when you change over graphics cards in Windows, here is what I currently do:

Uninstall drivers (Add/Remove)
Reboot to complete Uninstall
Delete entry from Device Manager
Reboot into Safe Mode
Run Driver Cleaner
Shut Down
Change Card and Start
Install New Drivers
Reboot

Do people find this necessary for all graphics card changes? I.e. even if that card is the same make? Personally I only do the above if I've moving from Ati/Amd to Nvidia or vice versa. If I'm doing a same make change I tend not to bother with Driver cleaner.

Interested to see what other people thing of the process listed and what they do.

i just Uninstall drivers (Add/Remove), Reboot to complete Uninstall, Shut Down, Change Card and Start, Install New Drivers, Reboot...

and sometimes if its another ati card i just Shut Down, Change Card and Start

I just Add/Remove the drivers then shut down, swap cards and then reboot into safe-mode, run Driver Sweeper, reboot normally, cancel Found New Hardware Wiz. install new drivers, i also do a Driver Sweep if im switching to the same cards (i.e Nvidia to Nvidia, ATi to ATi), just so theres no references/settings to my old card still kicking about in there.

i had no probs with just a simple uninstall, turn off, insert new card, install

so like this

Uninstall drivers (Add/Remove)
Shut Down
Change Card and Start
Install New Drivers
games!

i went from ATI to ATI card and what i did was...

Shut down.
Replace cards
Turn on and play games

No changes to anything, as the driver runs both ati cards without needing change

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah my process seems overkill for changing over the same make. I'm about to switch a 6800Ultra for a X1800XT on my sisters Pc, so wish me luck!
