Corrupt memory card - lost THM files

After coming back from London this week, I've found that one of my memory cards is corrupt. I've managed to recover the CRW files, but not the THM ones. I thought this would be alright but no raw viewer will open the recovered CRW files (tried with RawShooter, BreezeBrowser, LightZone, etc). All the files look to be about the right size for a raw file - I'm wondering if I need the THM files, although I thought they were just a small thumbnail of the raw image. Anybody else had this problem and (hopefully) found a solution to it? (I'm using a 10D if it makes any difference)

hi

not sure about the specific of raw files and thm files etc, but for any kind of data recovery in the past i've used Ontrack Easy Recovery. Its recovered stuff of corrupt SD cards and memory sticks of mine in the past.

hope that is of some help.

I've used a couple of recovery programs and they all seem to recover the same files so I don't think that's the problem. The JPGs that are recovered are absolutely fine which is what led me to believe that it's the missing THM files that's stopping the CRW files from being read correctly by a raw viewer. The total filesize of the recovered files is about a gig which is expected since the card was full.

The card is a PNY 1GB card (it doesn't have any speed ratings or any other info on it). Looking at it now, it's fairly clear to see how it became corrupted - the metal casing on the back is pretty dented - that'll teach me to just sling it into a bag :/

I could be wrong here but I thought the THM files were only there to allow preview, you should still have been able to open the RAW without them.
