Hi,

I have a laptop with win xp home on it..

There are 3 user accounts, of which 2 I cannot gain access to, as someone put a cd in which wiped a lot of win registry files..

I tried installing recuva on guest account it did install but it wouldnt run due to various win registry errors..in the end I got a send error report msg..

The files I need to keep before reformatting are basic word, excel and jpg files..

I cannot gain access to them through the guest user account - "my documents"

Infact the folders appear empty...but I have been reassured the files were initally there..

So how can I fix the OS to recover the files?

Or alternatively what can I do to get those files back..

To summarize I have a corrupt win xp home and files under different user accounts that I need to gain access to so I can back them up and then reformat..

Thanks in advance..

get ubuntu live cd and copy the stuff to somewhere safe (therefore the right forum...). Linux cant handle the windows permissions (a good thing in this case) so it would be easy to get eveything you need
