Corrupted MSI files

Is their any software that can repair corrupted MSI files. We recently replaced a server and we restored the data from a NTbackup to the new server now the MSI's do not run. Permissions are all ok and the MSI's in zipped files seem to be ok. Any ideas?

"Contact your support personnel or package vendor" is the message i am getting.
 
heres some more info about the problem experinced.

I have just backed up a folder from a

Windows server 2003 R2 Standard EDition to a new server

this was done using NTbackup and Symantic backup. I restored the data onto
the new server and the MSI's will now not work. The security tab is no longer
appearing in the MSI. This is the same if i restore it to my desktop machine
'windows xp pro'. One thing i noticed was the old server had ris services
running on it. The old server is no longer available. This doesnt seem to be
a problem with the backups as the same problem happens when restoring from
older tapes with symantic and from 'ntbackup'

This is the message i get when i try to run the msi.

"this installation package could not be opened. Contac the application
vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package".

any help muchly appreciated.

We already have the latest windows installer set-up and have tried the files on different machines.
 
Check the properties of the file and see there is anything along the lines of 'unblock'.

There can be issues files being transfered to other computers and getting blocked with the 'This file came from another computer…' message, this isn't the error message I'd associate with that, but it's worth a look.

I have never heard of unblock being something you can select.
 
I've copied an exe file from my XP machine to a 2003 server and it does get blocked.

Right click the file, go to properties, at the bottom of the general tab, there is an additional box saying 'Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer' and there is an unblock button.

I was dubious that this would be your issue as the error you received wasn't what I'd associate with a blocked file, but thought it might be worth a check

It happens when you download some things from the internet, however this is probably controlled by group policy in a corp network so maybe why you don't see it on home setups?

For instance if I download something at work by default I get a windows security message when running it, to get rid of this I have to right click > properties > then at the bottom of the properties page there's a button labelled 'unblock'.

What ia annoying is if I forget to unblock something then stick it out on my sccm dist points as I then have to unblock it on each point, I can't just unblock it in my source directory and redistribute :p
