Corsa B - Problems

My Friend has recently passed his test and has since found numerous issues with is Corsa B, 1.4LX.

First his Engine Management light would come on randomly leading to his HandBrake light and Battery light permanently on, i narrowed this down to his fanbelt being non-existent, I replaced it and the Handbrake and Battery lights went off.

Now when he is on the motorway and lets off the gas his Engine Management light comes on and stays on until he turns the car off, also it sometimes comes on when he heads down a steep hill and brakes.

ANY ideas or a direction to point me in? or do i point him toward a garage?
 
engine braking, throttle closed, high manifold vacuum... id look for a vacuum leak

one non-descipt light doesnt tell an awful lot though.

even after you fix it, these ecus can store codes indefinately and still limit performance etc until the codes are cleared
 
Does the pedal trick work on a Corsa-b? it does on my C.

Edit, my google skills say no. Get the error codes read at a garage!
