Corsa C dipped beam lethal

I may be wrong but I thought lamp housings were marked if they were hid. Googling suggests they'll be marked DC for hid dipped, DR for hid main, DCR for both. Presumably lack of these markings would be enough to confirm any suspicions and cause someone to poke around a bit more for a HIDS4U logo on the ballast or similar.

Edit - these markings are in fact one of the things referenced in the testing manual regarding how to identify hids. Lack of them could raise suspicion. How bothered your average tester will be in looking for this stuff is a different matter.

The problem is, not all headlights have visible markings without removing the headlight. On the Corsa C it's on the sticker on the back of the unit (which first off, is easily replacible with one marked for DC/DR or DCR) which I doubt a tester would be able to see anyway. Sure if the lens is marked, or the top of the casing then it would be a good tell-tale, but doesn't work for all headlight units.

I sincerely hope you had to Google that :p

Agree there isn't a failsafe way to tell but there are certainly things they can go looking for if they suspect your 13 year old Corsa didn't have factory xenons.

I'm back!

Luckily the dipped beam bulbs could be changed without having to rip the front end off so that saved some ball-ache! On removing the bulbs that were there, they were possibly the cheapest looking blue bulbs i've ever seen. Even the pained end on the end of the bulb was flaking off.

Those must be the "xenon" bulbs the guy who sold it to me said about haha. Put in a pair of fresh nightbreakers and will see what they're like tonight.

Good chance the bulbs arent installed properly. I had this with my passat when I bought it. The lights were unbelievably poor, after a little investigation found the bulbs not quite in right. In fairness it was very fiddly to get them properly home but then worked very well.

Had plenty of cars with projector lights before and never had trouble before so it was a new one to me.

Just reporting back, the nightbreakers are vastly better than what was in the car when I got it. I can actually see road markings now.
