My friends car has something wrong with it. The clutch pedal has no resistance and it won't go into gear when the engine is on. The top of the gearbox looks as though some liquid has spilt out. So i'm presuming that the hydraulic fluid is leaking from somewhere but I'm not entirely sure how hydraulic clutches work. Do they use the same fluid from the brakes? If so why is the brake fluid at the correct level and why do the brakes work fine?

Any ideas what might have broken? Will I be able to fix it easily?

Her car is a 2001 Corsa 1.0 3 cylinder jobbie :p

I know I've changed a couple of cable operated clutches and replaced the cable on my old one. However the corsa c does have a hydraulic operated clutch.

The clutch should have a slave cylinder, I expect this is leaking (or one of the pipes is)

Best bet is if you go down while she pumps it, and see what spurts out of where.

Yep done that and the fluid comes out of this thing on the top of the gearbox which connects to a pipe which goes up towards the scuttle panel.

I assume the slave cylinder is inside the gearbox casing?

clutch slave cylinder has had it and needs replacing.they usually leak first and then get progressively worse but can fail all of a sudden.could always be the release bearing though so its gonna be abit trial and error

Found a slave cylinder cheap enough but guessing its gonna be a gearbox off job?
