Hi everybody,

Im new to the whole forum thing but im seeking some advice for my next build.
I already have a black and red theme going on as the pictures clearly show but im looking to complete the build in a couple of weeks time when some money comes through. It all looks abit untidy at the moment but it will be much cleaner when the hardware goes in.
My budget is around £1200 pound, i already have the case and other case accessories as well a a monitor so its just my main components. This system will be used primarily for gaming.

Any advice is welcome and any ideas on how i could change what ive already done to my case would be welcome. Apologies if the pics are horizontal ive put this post together quickly before work.

Cheers,

Bill

Blue PCB on the gfx card? just no.

Also your choice of X79 is poor, the X79-UP4 is much more feature filled and has better expansion.

Lastly X79 usually run better with four sticks of RAM as the CPU features a quad channel memory controller.

Also, worth noting is the problem a few members have had with this mobo and the 7950/70 cards. The board needed a bios update in order for the cards to work. And, as there is no onboard graphics, you will need to have a spare Gpu, in order to update the bios. Just thought it worth mentioning.

Ok so heres my pick, bear with me a moment. Now im unsure if you want 1155 or 2011 but for your preferance on couler alone i went with 1155. With regards HD i only went with one big ass SSD its not the samsung pro but for the pro your talking almost double the price! And this ssd will destroy any normal HD anyway.

Black and red goodness! lol

^
Problem with that is the board being an mATX has the two slots close together so SLi/Crossfire is impossible with a triple slot wide card.

I would do something like this,

The H100I has a LED that you can change the colour on, stick it in the roof with those Red trim Corsair fans and leave the fans it is supplied with in the box.

Cash back of £15 with the SSD.

i7K. Mobo has wifi and bluetooth inc with some other nice freebies. This 670 uses the 680 PCB, it's well known the 670 is a cut down 680 but they trimmed off very little. RAM is great for the price very low CAS rating too. Plextor SSD will rival the samsung 840 PRO with a firmware update. Bluray drive might not be needed but you can swap that easy enough.

Really look forward to seeing what you settle on. We'd looooove to see a build log buddy ;) ;)

Thankyou everybody for the suggestions they are all strong contenders for my final build so i will see about putting some pics up when its completed. I noticed everybody suggested samsung for SSDs, im assuming they are the top dogs in the SSD industry? I had my eye on a corsair neutron gtx 120GB for boot as it comes with a 5 year warranty and has quite good read ups but now im not too sure.
Ive been building PCs for ages but ive been out the game for 3 years or so so SSDs are completely new to me. I do know that they have moved forward vastly in terms of reliabilty compared to early SSD technology. So once o get this settled ill go about choosing from the suggestions above.
Below is my possible final build but nothings final until its in my case i always say. Im going to use the 16gb of corsair vengeance ram from my previous build as its not that old and i already have a corsair 850 watt Power supply as seen in the pics.

The Samsung 840Pro is the top dog and the 256GB model currently has £15 cashback offer making it a total of £165.

That makes it a bargain.

As the Samsung 840 rpo 256GB has £15 making it £165 I would much rather have that than the Plextor;)

It is usually much more expensive than the Plextor, I must have scrolled straight past it. Thank you for pointing out my poor eye sight. It's actually £6 cheaper before the cash back which you have to wait on.
