I've more or less decided on this case for my next build to feature the asus impact mini-itx mobo, 4790k, H75 (initially, will upgrade to h100i in due course).

I am having trouble getting definitive answers on what gpus will and won't fit in the case.

I would like to go for a gtx 980 or 970 card but available information appears to contradict what will and won't fit. I'd like to get the gigabyte sniper g1 980 but it claims to be 300mm due to the wind force x3 cooler. Could I chop off the protruding end of the cooler cover to make it fit?

Thank you and I have seen that already however that usually isn't the definitive answer as for example I know that some cards with non reference coolers still have clearance issues with protrusions such as heat pipes.

Looking at the pictures of the g1 gigabyte card, it looks as if the wind force cooler could be modded to fit if the cooler shroud was modded leaving the heat pipe ends exposed as the longest part of the card.

Also in the carbide air 240s case, what is it specifically that prevents cards longer than 290mm from being fitted, and can I mod the case to allow an extra 10 or more mm? ie, is it the chassis bulkhead or a protruding part of the frame?

Vortez.net appear to show no obstructions until the intake fans on the front part of the case up to approx 320mm which would allow the 3x wind force coolers to fit. I wonder if Corsairs claim of 290mm limit is with a front mounted 240mm rad/fan combo.

Can anyone with this case comment with definitive measurements from rear io plate to the front most limiting protrusion please?

Collecting components for a similar build.

Hi Jimbo,
My son, a very experienced systems engineer, has spec'd a similar build for me. I'm collecting the components at the moment for a build over Christmas. According to the "official" figures, the Gigabyte 970 is too long and rather than start chopping things about or buying the wrong bits, we've gone with what is "supposed" to fit in.
So, it's an EVGA GTX 970 FTW with the other components noted below:-

Corsair Carbide Air 240
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core
Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5
Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
1000W Corsair RM Series, Fully Modular
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3-1866
Plextor M6e 256GB M.2-2280 SSD
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 4GB
AOC Q2770PQU 60Hz 27.0"

The MSI GTX 970 Gaming also fits but the EVGA is clocked a bit higher and is only a little more expensive. The PSU is OTT but was on a deal and I'll probably SLI the rig as well, after checking out the single card performance.
The monitor is meant to be an interim, waiting to see how the 4K scene develops over the next 12-18 months.

The case arrived yesterday and it looks very good. Obviously it's still bare and I can take some measurements, photos, if this would help.
I'm very new on this site and haven't seen a PM function yet but if there is one then let me have your email addy and I'll take some photos for you with a measuring stick in place.

Cheers

Asus Strix 970 fits in a 250D, with the heatpipe a few mm clear from the top panel. Anything higher I'd say is a no go. Lengthwise it has around 20mm spare, but that may disappear if you use a large front intake fan (I have the stock 140mm)

There is no PM, but you can push your email out to somebody using the 'trust' button.
