Corsair h80 problem

Hey,

Having a small question on the h80 install. I've attached the rear bracket but it appears to be a bit loose. I've tried to tighten the screws as best I can but it still has some "wobble" in it which can't be right/good as won't that prevent the cooler "locking" on correctly?

Mobo: Gigabyte Z77x-ud5h

Normal or do I need to fiddle with the bracket some more to get a tighter fit?
 
I just installed a H80 and to be honest I was not impressed as it died on me.

That said everything fitted tightly. There was no "wobble" with any of the fittings.

Not sure about the Z77x-UD5h but the X79-UD5 does not use a backplate.
Corsiar supply two sets of screws to use with or without a backplate depending on your MB.
 
This is before I've fitted the block. Done some more research and thinking about it once I screw the pump down that should "tighten" that up ? At the moment I've just attached the spacer :)
 
Do you have spare thermal paste? You could put the whole thing together, then take it off to see what kind of spread the paste leaves on the cooler/cpu. I tend do this is by default to check for a good seal and coverage of paste.

I found a post on the corsair forums which is basically the same problem and apparently it's normal so I might just give it a go and see what happens *gulp*
 
As long as you have the bracket fitted with the right screw fitment for your mobo it should tighten enough. I fitted mine yesterday to a z77 sabertooth.
 
yeh mine was loose when attached to a asus p8z68- v lx attaching the block itself and tightening it down locks it all up nice and tight....i didn;t think it would either...but it did

I had the same concerns, however in the end it worked out. Note that up/down tightness is what we're really after, the circular wobble is eliminated when thumbscrews are fitted.
 
Thanks guys. Can confirm it's fine once tightened :)

After struggling with a few other silly bits it's all up and running, quick mem test at the mo and running at a nice 23c idle.
