Corsair or nothing?

I was just wondering why Corsair are the default suggestion when it comes to things like all in one water coolers and other components?

Some of them may be good but going by the amount of RMA posts and people starting threads about Corsair problems it seems a bit daft that nothing else gets much of a mention.

I took a punt on a Zalman all in one cooler and I couldn't be more impressed with it, the quality is excellent and the performance like wise, so are there just lots of Corsair employees/stooges signed up here or what?

I guess what with corsair being a very well known brand results in their products being reccomended. Iirc though, the aio coolers may be produced by other firms, (asetek i think being one) then they just get a corsair sticker bunged on. Havent tried any of the latest versions of the aio units, only a corsair H50 a few years ago. Wasnt that impressed tbh. Prefer the simplicity of a big air cooler. Less to go wrong, bit like the old adage of KISS, (keep it simple stupid).

afaik the water coolers sell better than any air cooler at ocuk I think?

The components they produce are asthetically pleasing on the whole. There isn't a single corsair case that I know of that I think is ugly to look at tbh.

They make things look nice and for a lot of people thats important. They are good ad finding niche products to produce such as swap able fan rings to colour code. Their products on the whole are high quality too. Though of course they do come with premiums.

Also badge snobbery isn't just a car thing.

corsair things I own.

Corsair is living on it's name, not on it's quality. Not an uncommon thing for companies to do.

Asetek hold all US patent rights to CLC systems and has filed patent infringment suits against all other manufacturers of CLC systems.

Not all Asetek CLC are the same quality. What they are building for Corsair is not the same as what they are building for other companies too, like Antec Kuhler.

I rate Corsair memory above pretty much any other brand. Their other kit, not so bothered.
Wasnt that keen on the vengeance kit i had in my previous ivybridge setup, ok at stock but wouldnt oc for squat. Hence my switch to the samsung greens.

The only AIO water cooler i have used was an Antec920 and i wasnt impressed at all , temps were no different and the software didnt work properly either ....so i just stick with a nice big Phanteks air cooler :)

they do have some lovely cases though hence my current one Carbide 540 Cube Case:)...and their vengeance memory kits i tried ( two kits ) didnt wanna work for me either lol

The reason for a lot of RMA posts is the sheer amount of stuff they sell. Failure rate could be a 0.1%, but if you sell a million units, that's gonna be a lot.

Some of it also comes down to user error.

I installed my H100i last night. Happy so far, still "leak testing" it with paper towels inside the case even if it's an AiO. You can ever be too sure.

The reason corsair is often recommended is the performance vs price.

It's an OK unit, cleverly designed but the radiator isn't all that...particularly the screw hole bits, you need to be very careful as they can bend.

HAHAHA fo real?

Yes, would you not test an AiO system that has a possibility of leaking? It has happened before and might happen again. Especially since it is being delivered to you through several warehouses and hubs.

Doesn't take more trouble than leaving your case open for 12 hours and running it doing whatever you are doing anyway.

I would not risk thousands of pounds of hardware just because someone laughs at me in an internet forum.

I like corsair products, While I wouldn't use them exclusively in a rig you can see I owe a few corsair products myself ;)

The AIO WC's are usually produced by asatek (Pumps mainly) then companies like corsair add their own design elements to it and sell it as their product. Corsair rarely make a junk product so if they back it, it tends to be good*

*Exceptions still apply, like corsair link software

Smart move if its a refurb unit, I'd be highly surprised if a brand new one leaked.
Had an antec 620 since december, got it through amazon so TONES of warehouses. Never leak tested and its been solid.
That said yes all AIO WC's have had a small failure rate and Someone somewhere bought it and it ruined their rig however most of the companies that sell them are rather good for that sort of thing and people have had entire rigs replaced.

I had an old Air cooler literally come away from the mobo at the top, it fell with 2 prongs still in the bottom. Smacking into a GPU and pretty much destroying everything. All my cat did was jump on the table, Never gone back to air cooling since

Yes of course, I'm not telling anyone to leak test them, but I don't think its a ridiculous idea :)

So far I love the H100i. Managed to push 4.4ghz to 4.6ghz and still keep the silent profile. I'm not going any higher as temps are getting quite high even with my flat's window broken (So ambient is low).. gotta do another test and try when it gets warmer, not anytime soon.

My Zalman's single 120mm rad keeps my 4.5ghz 2500k cool enough for the fan to never come on during normal operation, the only time its been on is when I've run prime 95 to test stability. Very impressed with it.

swiftech also do some decent all in one coolers, if you have watched Linustechtips on all in one watercoolers you will be able to compare the most common types and their performances

Corsair isn't the be all, end all by a long shot. But they make decent quality, competitive gear, although often on the higher end, when compared to the usual crapola.

For example, I like the K70. If I had to go for a mech, I'd get a K70 with MX browns. Their cases are well designed, their PSUs can have teething problems, but I got a very good deal out of my AX850.

I do like his videos, but he's so prolific there's just so many vids to wade through!

It's like all he does 24/7 is film videos for youtube.
