Hi all,

I have a Corsair RM850 which i bought new in 2013 - the version with yellow writing (seen here). It's run flawlessly through a couple of builds and i've got the original cables so looking to reuse it in a new build.

I'm looking at getting a medium/high end computer but struggling to understand if it will be compatible with a new system. The PSU cables are Corsair type 3 which i don't think is a problem and looking at the Corsair legacy PSU compatibility checker i think it should be fine but i'd like a second opinion.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Name the parts in the PC and the cables you have and we can tell you, but if you're spending 1K5+, keeping a 10 year old PSU in service maybe isn't the wisest idea..
Thanks for the response and valid point. My thinking is that it is a PSU from a reputable brand which still works well so saving £150-£200 on a new one can better be spent towards a better CPU or GPU.

The PSU cables i have are listed below:
ATX connector (610mm)
1 (20+4 pin)
4+4 pin EPS12V (650mm)
2
6+2 pin PCIe (600mm+150mm)
6
SATA (540mm+90mm+90mm+90mm)
4
SATA (500mm+90mm+90mm)
6
4 pin Molex (450mm+100mm+100mm+100mm)
8
FDD adapter (+100mm)
2
Corsair Link (800mm)
1

I've not decided on the new PC yet but likely to be something like a Ryzen 7 7800X with a Nvidia 4700 Ti or Radeon 7800XT. I'll try and put something together once i figure out if i need a new PSU.

Compatibility:
7700 or 7800X3D = yes (board will need the 24 pin and 2x EPS12v, or 1x 8 pin and 1x 4 pin)
4070 Ti = no, if it uses 12VHPWR (but they usually include an adapter in the box)
7800 XT = yes (2x PCIE 6+2)

as above, your 10yrs old psu is about to run out of warranty...you can get a new RM850X with a new 10yrs warranty for £113.39 with free next day delivery right now..on sale and a discount code... or the rm1000x for £149.37..these aren't the shift versions so not atx3.0 but still v good psu's, ideal if going amd way...that's another 10 years of warranty and piece of mind for £11.34 a year (if it lasts another 10 years and rm850x)
the rmx psu's were redesigned in 2021, so come with magnetic levitation fans..slightly noisier at full load than the 2019 version, but much more durable, and below certain load, runs zero fan...got the rm1000x on am4 build and never heard it tbh...review had it just shy of platinum status and peak efficeincy is at 30% load and something like 80+% at 2% load ..need to refind the review, been a few years..anyway, they're good psu's

Thanks very much, that is really useful.

thanks for the input, i was looking at the be quiet! range earlier so good to know the rmxs are another slightly cheaper but good alternative.
