I see Corsair have released two new SFX PSU’s, one at 850 and the other at 1000. Can’t find any reviews yet but they are out there to buy.

Annoyingly they both appear to be SFX-L, and from what I can tell they’ve discontinued the SF750.

I just wondered if anyone had used one yet? Do we know if the cables are braided like on the 750? I’ve tried to find the answer but can’t locate the right info anywhere.

I’ve just installed one (850W), with the Corsair adapter plate (bought separately, as it’s not included in the box), to get more GPU airflow in my Fractal Design Nano S case.

Indeed, the cables aren’t braided. They are also rather short. I had a real struggle to get the motherboard connected - the cable stretched tight around the GPU as it couldn’t be routed around the back of the case. I also need to move a hard disk to get that cable to reach.

Now it’s rebuilt, I’m enjoying it as it’s quiet - unsurprising as my system probably is 450W max, but I wanted some headroom for upgrades. It also means my GPU now gets decent airflow, as it was almost touching the old ATX PSU, so that’s lots cooler and quieter.

Nice one thanks for the feedback!

I’m sitting on the fence at the moment between this and the 850R Extreme which is supposed to be very quiet indeed. It’s also SFX, and although we are talking a couple of cm’s it all helps.

With how good and well regarded the Corsair SF750 is I'm really surprised there wasn't more noise around the 850w-1000w units.
It's as though they just silently appeared. It makes me wonder if the quality is not going to be as good. Tempted by the 1000w one but not sure I should give up the 750

You say an Extreme version and SFX? Tell me more my friend...:)

Gonna take a stab and say maybe these will be the same OEM's as the others from Asus etc which are from Seasonic.

My next question would be, if anyone has one does it coil whine?

Yup! Seems hard to get at the moment. It’s a platinum rated 850w 3.0. It’s also supposed to be VERY quiet, even quieter than the new SFXL units from Corsair

Thought it was another Corsair unit but see its actually a Silverstone unit, I've got a 800W LTI, though I wonder whom the OEM is for the 850R, also warranty length has always slightly put me off the Silverstone's as it's 5 years on the 850R.

I’m surprised at the lack of reviews out there for these Corsair units. Would have thought there would be loads of media attention on them, but there’s literally nothing.

My biggest concern is the cybenetics report shows them as being substantially loud, which is a real downgrade from the SF750.

ATX 3.0 PSU reviews seem to be thinner than usual, in general. I thought GN was going to start doing them at one point, but the loss of Aris is annoying.

hwbusters just uploaded a review for the 1k version, the noise looks like a real problem IMO. I’m disappointed in Corsair after how good the 750 was…

They say the noise is mainly at 450w and above. In my system either CPU or GFX fans will be ramping up by that point anyway.
Overall it's the best SFX-L PSU as long as you're ok with the noise

There’s a 850W review too -

It also gets noisy at high loads. In my system it’s extremely quiet, which matches up with the review as it is around 450W at most.

I took a chance ordering one before the reviews. Although I’m happy with it for now, it’s disappointing that it will get loud if I put use more power hungry components in the future.

Having a clear out - it turns out there was an adapter plate included in the box. I ordered a separate one as I thought it wasn’t…
Posting here again in case it helps anybody.

Are you able to tell if the fan is at full stop at <400W or just spinning very slow?

The Hwbusters review seems to suggests it's at very low speed around 400-600 rpm when below 400W. But the review only charts the 115V results, and not 230V for some reason.

I’ve just had a look - mine is not spinning at the windows desktop (minimal power draw)

Thanks, that's helpful.
Zero fan speed at low load/idle is ideal.
I don't mind while gaming but at desktop or browsing it can be slightly irritating to hear if it ramps up and down - would prefer a constant fan speed to that.

The cybernetics review (I didn't realise it was the same guy as Hwbusters) has more data and also shows 0 fan at low loads.

I've got an SF850L on the way, recent discounts elsewhere were too hard to resist, so now I can avoid wondering whether to return and can just install it once it arrives.
