Dear all,

I just wanted to ask your opinion on the Corsair SP2500 2.1 system. When the system came out, it received great reviews.

Is it worth purchasing a set now, or are there better alternatives for general multimedia purposes? I have looked into Edifier 530D, but the reviews seem mixed. Also considered a few other options, but nothing really caught my attention.

Thanks in advance

There are some known issues with the PSU but generally they are fine. Sold mine a couple of years ago due to a lack of space after a house move and still miss them.

Also bear in mind that they now EOL as well.

Aego 3 are an alternative.

Too many people have had issues with the PSU failing to be a good recommendation in my opinion.

There's a thread from only the other day posted by someone asking for a recommendation to replace his broken SP2500's.

Good speakers for those who have sets that are still working; but it's a risk, even if you can still get them.

There's not that many alternatives though.

Acoustic Energy Aego M, were a great alternative, but they've been superseded by the Aego 3, which are a fair bit more expensive than the Aego M at £200. Decent speakers, but not worth £200 in my opinion.

Harman Kardon Soundsticks III are very good, but their looks are somewhat unconventional. If you don't mind the looks, they offer good sound and are good value.

Edifier C2XD are also worth considering. I know 2 forum members that went for the C2XD after the SP2500's they both had, broke. Both seemed very pleased with the Edifier's despite them being a fair amount cheaper.

Or you could just go for a good pair of stereo speakers. While stereo speakers will be better for music, I can understand the appeal of a subwoofer for game and film use.

Thank you guys.

I am currently using Logitech Z10 and the sound quality of those is quite amazing. Unfortunately one of the speakers have developed a slight buzz in it, but I had them for about 10 years, so definitely not complaining. I might look into Hi-Fi brands such as Audioengine, as I want an upgrade, not a side step.

Very likely some capacitors starting to fail in power supply or elsewhere in circuitry.

Corsair probably went too cheap in those to have PSUs failing.

The golden era of PC speakers has ended. Speaker sets like the Logitech Z500, 600, and 5000 series are no more. Klipsch no longer make the iFi or the Promedia Ultras. It's a sad time, really.
Not many options out there these days that could really be considered good speakers. A lot of people are just buying studio monitors and adding a subwoofer.

SP2500 are ok until they break, and they do tend to break. If you want to play the lottery I'd suggest the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's which are an 18ish year old design that is still in production. Those roll over and die after a couple of years too. Still better than the 2500's.

If you wanna get spendy, SB X Katana is supposed to be great (I have no experience with these)

Thank you. Actually I have just purchased Audioengine A5+ a few days ago. The sound is great, although they are not broken in yet :)
