Inspired by the article in this month's EVO magazine, I have a desperate hankering to drive to Corsica to sample their roads and to make a bit of a holiday out of it as well. It looks like a driving heaven from what I can see so far!

Has anyone been before? If so, what'd you think of it? I understand the route down can take you through the French Alps where there are awesome driving roads. If you had to get to Marseille or Nice from Calais, which route would you take?

I have been down to Nice, Monaco this year in september on my way back from Student Brakeaway which also included various passes on the way down to Croatia including the Stelvio, and the roads down there are fantastic, even the N routes around there are fabulous as they sweep around the coast.

If I was you I would head down to Reims pop over to Strasbourg and work my way down through switzerland and italy to get down to Nice. Would take in a load of awesome roads and scenery on the way. Plus you're not too far from civilisation if you want to take in some night life on the way down.
 
Corsica is just like the rally. I barely remember a boring road, shame more couldnt be said of the car - clio diesel!

although this was probably better than a gutless small engined petrol as it least it had some torque to get up all the hills!
 
The more I reasearch the place, the more awesome it sounds. It's going to be fairly expensive if the Euro exchange rate stays as it is but it does sound like it would be worth it.

The ferry seems to be about €250 and a hotel for a few nights is going to be about €400 for anything decent. Do you think it would be better to road trip over the island, staying in a different town every night or just stay in the capital and go driving during the day?

Let me know if you find a decent one as me + Kate are taking the Golf to France in June and I want to go down Marseille or Nice way as well :D

Kate's mum said it would take 35 hours on the peage... I reminded her I would be driving a car not a horse and cart.
 
EVO made me want to drive those roads in Spain and Tuscany much more than Corsica!
 
Corsica - dangerous for driving on one side of the island, the other is supposed to be a lot laid back and enjoyable. I think the East side of the island is the 'scarier' side and the west is the 'nicer' side. I can remember quite a lot about it so if you'd like any more info add me on MSN or trust email :)

i drove all over the place. takes a fair bit of time to get around as the roads are all wiggly (:D ) and up and down hills / cliffs etc.

got ferry into bastia, then down east cost to porto-vecchio and bonficaio and up to Ajaccio, also spent a day in the middle at Corte. i think that was about a weeks worth. porto-vecchio and bonficaio are lovely. :)
 
Im kinda making plans to head down to a friends house in Belesta (Mini pyrenees) then onto monaco perhaps in May. I guess it would be silly not to experiance corsica when we are so close. How much is the ferry to get over there?
