Duty to who? You're bordering on obsessive and if anything doing yourself a huge disservice. Don't you have something more productive to do with your time rather than spend so much energy repeating yourself over and over on products you apparently have no interest in anyway?

lolNirK you're the worst Apple troll ever. You come here flogging the same dead horse ad nauseam and the only person that you're winding up is yourself.

Who cares what a similar spec gets you honestly? Buy what you like and can afford.

I don't understand why people have the need to spend all of their time desperately trying to convince people that Apple are bad when all they have is their opinion (that they push as fact). It's totally bizarre.

Even people who were being nice towards him in the other thread (when such an obnoxious individual doesn't deserve it) ended up being flamed and then he resorted to childish replies such as "Trololol" when his argument fell apart for the umpteenth time.

No doubt he'll continue to embarrass himself in this thread...

He's like an obsessive religious person, pushing his opinion on everyone, over and over again. Which is ironic really given his comments.

I wasn't repeating myself I was talking about power consumption. Anyway you have a point about wasting my time.

LOL Robbo you say I am wasting my time and should find better things to do... Have you actually seen your post count and the amount of time you seem to spend on these forums? Talk about hypocritical. Anyway you have a point I am not going to say another word about apple because it is a waste of time.

very good but you don't need that cooler for it you can use a stock cooler if not overclocking you certainly don't need an nh d14 for a 3.4 ghz stock setting with turbo mode enabled.

tj07 is a bit ott for the build too.

I'll bite anyway

Haha, so much for "I won't read your posts you're on ignore". :D

Making a few posts a day on a forum is hardly taxing (well, it might be for you). Especially when you consider everyone is equipped with phones/tablets/etc. However you're dedicating your time to something that is completely futile as your opinion is not fact. One day you might realise this.

Anyway you have a point I am not going to say another word about apple because it is a waste of time.

That'll be the day... no doubt you'll be back later.

Well I am not really dedicating any time, post a message which takes 30 seconds to type... Anyway im not saying anything else and you can go back on my block list.

I did have something more to say about the nuances of the TCO thing but since this is the latest thread to get out of hand I'm not going to bother.

It would be really great if some people just simply ignored each other. Surely that's the path of least resistance.

edGfaCTor, this is a completely a genuine question, are you trolling just to have a bit of fun in response to the other thread? I'm not accusing you or anything, I'm being completely serious.

Anyhow, this forum seriously needs a moderator who can:
a) Show an interest in the Apple subforums;
b) Detect threads that are going to become flamewars;
c) Invoke temporary bans for those who troll, whether intentionally or not.

Quite honestly, every other subforum on OcUK has managed to stay helpful, but in recent times this one has gone down the drain.

The problem is the flames/trolls go both ways in this forum and previously any "bad" word said against apple, even by people who own some products, are instantly ban/thread closing worthy.

*EDIT* before anyone else says it. It you are looking at an iMac are you not after an all-in-one solution? So would getting a tower + monitor not be silly?

The Asus isn't really comparable either unfortunately, it's only a 1080p monitor, so you'd need to add on £300 to start.

It was just a post for comparison of performance for £££

The PC posted would look alright as well as it has a lian li case and a 2713 monitor. I know it is not exactly the same as a mac it was just an example, purely for performace for the money.

Just for anyone interested as that was the gist of the original post, I was offering a more affordable system with the same performance as an example. The 680mx is somewhere between a 660 and a 660ti for performance.

Take it you don't have a smartphone or Laptop then? They are expensive for performance/£...

Either way a full ATX size gaming machine does NOT work compared to a highly engineered machine. The same reason Laptops are more expensive than desktops (and smaller laptops more expensive than 15" laptops). Almost all the parts are custom (even processors in some) in AIO's.

I like my OSX eco system, 10 years of windows previous experience and continue to use them at work, they do what they do but i just like Macs now.

It's pretty, it's nice, its quiet, it does not take up any space as I basically have the monitor and no tower.

A windows machine could be 50% cheaper and I would have to think hard before going back to it. In fact, had the same conversation with someone on another forum about this as he claimed he could built the same spec for 50% of the same iMac. He can't. At best he could get to is around 80%, but that still come in a tower, no 3 year warranty either.

I made one for 62% of the price built and delivered same spec.

The apple 3 year warranty costs extra.

That is all goodbye.

Lol I doubt it, I have a feeling you have missed out things such as.

1 - web cam and mic (its in the screen)
2 - Lack of Thunderbolt
3 - to the same db noise level. 1 db over and you are out and i mean it.
4 - Need both 128G SSD and 1TB HD inside to match.
5 - 10bit 27 inch 1440p IPS TFT

Missing a single part is mission fail, so that it is the SAME spec. Anything else is Lesser spec.

That is before you get the same form factor, if that rule is enforced then you can't built one yourself to that size no matter what.

I chose the GTX 680 as the iMac has a downclocked desktop 680. Underclocking the card to iMac levels would definitely help with less heat and fan noise.

For the rest of the system, I have no idea on the heat/noise generated. I did consider watercooling but there's just too many parts to factor in and I'm not that clued up on them.

yes I know it is not the same form factor etc etc.

All I am saying is that you can have the exact same spec with webcam and all that stuff, maybe not thunderbolt but everything else for 62% of the price. You can believe me or not I am not really bothered but I did it a couple of days ago and that was the cost for the same spec / slightly better with all components etc.

Also the 680mx is nowhere near a GTX680... It is somewhere between a GTX660 and a 660ti.

My examples earlier in the thread were better, they have better screen and were identical / slightly better performance.

I was simply saying that you can get the same performance for 62% of the price of a mac, probably less if I did not use things such as a lian li case and other nice components... I could get the price down to about 55% with low budget parts such as case etc. And still have identical performance and a monitor which is as good as the imac (Dell 2713). Yes you do not get the things that people say they like in apple macs such as designer styling etc. But I was just saying that you can get identical performance and same/better screen for 60% of price.

I am not saying that imacs are not worth the money because this is entirely subjective to the buyer... I am just saying that it is possible to get identical / better performance for that price with a nice case and monitor included.

The GTX 680 has more cores, which are actually a lot more useful in applications such as Photoshop than raw clock speeds.

Also underclocking the GPU by a moderate amount will help significantly with heat, and subsequently noise. Funny how you are deliberately leaving this out of every comparison.

I am not leaving anything out because i genuinely do not care as I do not have an apple and do not need to justify it. I was simply putting facts down out of interest.

It is not difficult to build a quiet and heat efficient PC. Maybe 5 years ago it was but now you have a massive selection of silent cases and fans etc. and the cooling would be better on a PC due to the size of the heatsink.

I am not sure how having an underclocked GPU can be considered as a plus but each to their own as they say.
