for something simple like an e36, 316.

how much would a garage typically charge to supply and fit decent quality discs and pads (ATE sort of range)

thanks

i dont know, ive never sent a car to a garage for brakes to be done, but i just wanted an idea. 1 hour labour would be getting off lightly id have thought considering how badly people seem to get ripped off.

i just wnat to know how much garages charge to supply and fit discs and pads.

For my rear brakes on my CTR it was £18 for the pads, £90 for the discs and £40 fitting.

I wouldn't be keen on paying much more than £90-100 for a brake disc/pad change on a 316. Maybe i'm being tight though.

Who do/would you use? I've tried Abernethies on Huntershill and the BMS on Auchinairn Road.

I paid something around £100-£125 for front pads and discs for the Mk3 Mondeo at BMS last year. I'd have to go home and check the receipt to be sure.

[edit] Also, for some idea of parts prices, Eurocarparts has started putting prices online for a lot of stuff. Take those prices, subtract some for trade and you have an informed estimate of the garages costs.

depends where you are and where you take it.

labour would be a bout a1 1/2 hours
parts - discs are £40 for genuine on the six pot dirty sixes from memory
cant remember how much genuine pads are, i would not pay more that £120 all in for discs and pads changed on the front.

well tbh i wouldnt pay anyone else to do the job!

I agree labour should run at about 1.5 hours all in. Maybe 2 hours if you have drum rear brakes (they need a good clean usually and are just plain fiddly compared to disc rears).

All in all with disc rears around 200 to 240
With drum rears around 170 to 210 (if new rear drums aren't needed, and that is probably unlikely).

Thats just ballpark as is the following...
I think OEM spec ATE's or Jurid front discs approx £28 per side with textar or ate pads at approx £22 or £24 for the front set.
Rears discs same spec ATE approx £24 per side with pads at £24 for the rear set.
If you have the rear drums you should probably be looking at just replacing the shoes and adjusters at approx £20 for the shoes, £8 to £12 for the adjusters.
Rear drums should you need them are approx £18 per side.

This is just a rough guide. I don't know where you are located or what your local independant will charge per hour. I assume here that everything will come undone as it should and not be difficult. Problems if they occur will up the time.
All this is just off the top of my head. Make sure you varify everything.
