Cost of moving out.. Renting

Been living back with my parents again and its driving me mad. However looking at moving out on my own I can't afford it :(

After Tax I get around 1K

I use £100 in petrol in a month.

Suitable flats/houses are £450 per month.

Council Tax £120
Gas + Electric £100
TV £13
Food £160

I know I'm on a pretty poo wage but seriously, am I really going to be forced to live in some scabby council house? :mad:
 
£450 is too much for one person, I'm sure you could find cheaper if you lowered your unrealistic standards.

Live in a shared house if you have to, but ffs get out of your parents house or you'll end up a 40 y/o psycho.
 
Wages just haven't really gone up inline with the cost of living lately :( 10 years ago I was earning around that and could live quite comfortably renting a reasonable 2 bedroom place.

If you aren't on a waiting list for the council already good luck getting one - took me 7 years before I was even offered one. Council houses are what you make of them, the scabby ones are occupied by people who don't look after it and frankly it's unlikely to be the council's fault. I did mine up and lived in it for 5 years happily :D

On your wage I'd be looking at renting with someone, as frankly you'd be in trouble should you have any unexpected expenses, such as the car breaking down etc. Unless you had a decent deposit of say around £5,000 in which case move to Glasgow and buy the 1 bed flat I'm selling in the next couple of months ;)
 
I earn the same and live fine at the moment. Just on a placement year at uni, rent is 300PCM though and I don't have to pay council tax. I'd be looking for sharers ideally, living on your own you really need more income.
 
Actually council tax wouldn't be £120 if you're living alone because you'd get 'single person occupancy discount' (which would bring it down a bit). And if you weren't living alone then it would be split between tennants. So you'll never pay that much for it.

Single persons is 25% off, most houses over a band B would still give council tax of £95+ even with that discount.

I earn the same and my rent is 460

council tax 80

utilities 100

tv licence 28

phone 35

tv internet 26

personal stuff loan insurance ect ect 200 ish

I'm having to move out tommorow from my own flat into an actual shed as i cant afford it and my dad has no room in the house :(
 
you can't afford it. when i was on just over 1k a month £400 for a room all inclusive was as much as I could afford to still be able to live.
You don't need council housing, you need to live in shared housing.
 
moved out and lived on my own 3 years ago. I was earning £1000 a month and was paying out around £900 a month for rent etc. I lasted 8 months and moved back in with the parents :(
