Cost of moving out

As others have said, £250 per month for food for two people is extremely high. Also, consider paying off your credit cards and other debts before you move out. The £650 pm that you will spend on rent, council tax and utilities will clear your debt quickly, whereas it will hang around your neck like a millstone when you've got a lot of extra expenses.

get a mortgage, even if it means 2,3,4 years living with parents saving up.

You would advise staying with parents for 3 or 4 years just to scrape together enough for a deposit?! Poor parents...

I would say that getting out of your parents hair is a very "good reason" to rent.

Well we have moved in this week and all is good so far!

Quick question if anyone knows - the boiler has 2 switches on it both of which go to immersion heaters? Just the top one is on and we have hot water constantly, not even needed to put the bottom one on. Is it best to leave the top one on constantly or just switch it on say an hour before we need it for a shower?

You should turn immersion heaters off when you're not using them, they use a hell of a lot of electricity. Compare the speed your meter moves with it both on and off. :)
