Cost of running a Prius

I know a guy who had one as a company car and he went to Manchester and back in heavy traffic (so continuous stop start etc) - Cost him £15 in fuel...on a 500mile round trip...

Can't really argue with that :p

As I said in post 13, service costs are cheap (well, cheap to average if done at Toyota) apart from battery replacement, which is not.
...
So, servicing costs are relatively cheaper than other cars then.

According to Toyota, the battery will last the life of the car.

There is a case of a taxi driver in Canada who did > 200,000 miles in a little over two years driving four years ago in a Prius without having to change the battery (http://www.hybridcars.com/high-road/how-long-do-hybrid-batteries-last.html).

In 2005, according to him the cost in the unlikely event of your having to replace ALL 228 cells of the battery would have been 5,000 Canadian Dollars.

To be fair, they are a large petrol hatchback doing 60+ mpg. A derv can do this if you drive carefully. So there is definitely something to this hybrid thing. Toyota make a loss on them though, and this is the only reason they are economical.

Oh, and 12k on a hatchback that old, bit much.

Yes you can.

Thats somewhere in the region of 150mpg. So its a lie.

What? I assume you mean affordable?

Toyota have been making quite a profit on the Prius for a few years now, especially with the Gen3 as all the R&D has been covered and there in a typical business position. They cost no more in add on bits as a Common rail fuel system, a turbo, a dual mass flywheel and a big gearbox.

Well if its stop start all the time then hes barely going to use the engine isn't he. So it won't cost him any fuel :p

Yes as the battery holds next to no real energy and the wheel to wheel efficiency is around 40% so it wont really last long at all.

4 miles of driving and you might get 1.8 back? Then that 1.8 you get 0.75? Your not going to do 150miles like that are you.

The engine will soon start up below 70C so the cat stays hot.

As I said, only going by what I was told! :)

I'm only going by what I've been told :p - Don't shoot the messenger!

Yea but using logic and intelligent you can apply a filter to idiotic information surely.

If I told you my car could fly for example would you tell others my car can fly or would you file my information under B for BS?

You have no thought process that you can apply to such a claim?

I was in the pub and couldn't really carless. It makes no difference to me if it cost him £15 to get there and back, or £150 - either way. Thats what we were all told which was met with typical pub banter such as "kin ell mate, nice" :D

It's a BMW, they are Germans, who knows what it could do :p

What great banter? Ive heard better banter in church :p

You know the Prius is a good car, but I heard the other day that [TW]Fox' car can fly and who wouldn't prefer a flying car?
