Im looking at purchasing a Skyline (R33, GTS or R34) within the next year or so as i really love these cars. I have had a look on various motor websites and they all give varied info on how much these cars cost to run. My question is to any other Skyline owners, how much a month does it cost you to run on insurance, fuel etc etc and is it worth?

Cheers for you help

The MD's son where I work used to have an R34 GTR - i'll try and ask him in a bit.

He did mention that it spent more time at Abbey than it did on his drive.

 , If you could that would be great. I did find on one website that it will do about 14MPG on normal road and 19MPG on motorways so i think the fuel cost could be high.

£1k a year fully comp at aged 26, 7 years NCB and no points or accidents

Petrol on the GTR is high and bare in mind it has to be V-Power to be as close to Jap spec 100ron fuel as possible. You can easily spend £15-10 worth of fuel doing 20-30 miles if you use your right foot a lot
Even trying not to go on boost and crusing along in a high gear you will still use lots of fuel.

Servicing costs are high, most parts are dealer or specialist only. Oil has to be the highest quality, spark plugs the same

Basically EVERYTHING about owning one is expensive. New set of alloys on a Skyline GTR for example, expect to pay big money as they use a unique offset to the GTR.

Expect to pay money getting it tuned from stock power as it's criminal to run at the default 280bhp. They need 380-400bhp with a decent stage one tune before they come alive.

However they put a big smile on your face and are without doubt an iconic car to own.

Not sure about GTS's. They aren't really that special though, just a range topper in the ordinary Skyline range.

Cheers mate for that. The overwhelming urge to own and drive one is outwaying the cost at the mo :D . Is there much difference between the R33 and R34 for these cost??

No I wouldn't have thought so although my own experiences are with the R33 GTR.

The engine and running gear is very similar, still both 2.6 litre straight 6 twin turbo's. The R34 is a little bit lighter but all in all you can expect them to be much the same - expensive :)

Hiya

I don't own one no. My friend who is also my housemate does so I've been driving it about since the begining of last year and frequently look it after for weeks on end while he's away

As a result I know all about the costs to run and service it, and especially to drive it.

If he's happy with it I'll put up a picture later

Cheers

Whats the deal with 32s then?

They seem to vary in price from 6 to 12 grand. I couldn't get one that was all bodykit and pimped. I'd quite like a black/grey 32 standard looking, white wheels and a little tweaking.

I guess they are more weekenders than daily these days?

R32 GTR's are the best to have IMO, will be what I'll be going for next year :) Know a few people who have gone from R33 and R34's back to the 32's, they are apparently the best drivers car although I couldn't comment personally as I have only driven a 32.

I'll be looking for one around 400BHP myself and then I think I'll have to get the do-luck bodykit and wheels so that it looks like this -

Absolutly gorgeous car! :)

Wheels and kit alone though are around £5k!

I think you need to do a bit more research on what model you actually want to buy. R33 GTS or R33 GTST - R34 GTT.......

That's really, really nice that black one.

There was an R32 for sale near here, those look really good when detailed as well.

Aye t'is the nicest R32 I've seen :)

When I get mine I'll be going for one with stage 1 mods and then go for the do-luck kit/wheels and then a re-trim on the interior  Or maybe just go for a single turbo 500bhp monster, got a year+ to deside!
