Is it just me or has the cost of short term car insurance gone up and the criteria become more strict?
A DIY emergency today (snapping the turbo oil feed banjo bolt on the mondeo) meant I needed to borrow my Dad's weekend car - an MG TF Sprint and arrange temporary cover as my insurance doesnt have DOC cover until I get to 25.
A year or 2 ago, I had to borrow his older car (MGF) and DayInsure would cover me on any car for £10 a day provided it was worth less than 35k iirc. Now, they wanted 32 quid for the day or 50 quid for 3 days cover
To make matters worse, tempcover decided they wouldnt even cover me at all despite the fact I'm 24 with 5 years NCB and 7 years driving experience. Swiftcover (my insurance company) wouldnt let me add a temporary car to my policy or myself as a temporary driver to my Dad's policy (also Swiftcover) because I'm under 25.
I know its too late now, necessity meant I had to pay the 50 quid but is there any other options for next time?
