Cost/spec of your first PC

I must have been a late starter. I played with many 386s / 486s before...

The first half decent one I owned....I waited for AGP...and paid for it. 1997/1998.

A 4 MB matrox millenium 11 (GFX) in a QDI Legend (mobo) with a P2 266 and 64MBs of 66 mhz SDram with some huge great ISA 16 bit sound card and a 6 gig hard disc wiv windows 95 OSR2.

The graphics card cost a fortune then, as did the motherboard as it had an AGP slot. I seem to remember reading a lot of books then, and they didn't think AGP would be needed for another year.
That had a 14inch monitor, and set me back just over £1100. (incl office)

Seems stange that I had to stick a Voodoo accelerator card (PCI) in it to get it to play games. (quake 11)

Any loaded people on here ever try 2 voodoos in SLI mode?

A mate of mine bought the voodoo2 off me when I got voodoo3 and went sli.

Similar story here, played with and fixed broken 286-486s free from work in the early to mid nineties, then about 1996 first PC was an AMD K75 with 32Mb ram, cirrus logic 1mb graphics, cheap soundblaster compatible sound card, cant remember the hard disk possibly 1.6GB, connected it through some old hi-fi seperates and it was eventually upgraded for Unreal (Voodoo 2) and again for Half Life.

December 24th 1982 Commodore 64 £350.

1Mhz 6510 CPU, 64K Ram, Tape Drive.

Spent a lot of money on that over the next couple of years (disk drive, games, music stuff).

But also made a few quid selling a Red Button Reset switch and poke (cheat) codes for games

one of those BBC computers with a tiny monitor and a tape drive. Had one if those programing books and could write very simple programs.
