So the Mrs wanted a games console for a bit of couch gaming after playing Overcooked at a friend's house and loving it.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I then bought a couple of Xbox One controllers and moved my old PC to the living room, installed Steam and bought a bunch of games in the Steam Winter sale. Here's the list:

Adventure/puzzle games
  • Grim Fandango Remastered
  • Life Is Strange
  • South Park The Stick of Truth
  • Tales from the Borderlands
  • Portal 1 + 2
  • The Talos Principle
  • Firewatch
  • Oxenfree
Party/Casual games
  • Overcooked
Action games
  • Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition
  • Castle Crashers
She's mainly into adventure/puzzle/co-op/party games (and the Sims 3/4 which she's playing on my main desktop PC), but I really don't mind which games we play on the couch as long as we have a good time.

She's enjoying Grim Fandango, Castle Crashers and Overcooked at the moment. We haven't gotten round to playing any of the other games yet.

What should I buy next? (Check out all the suggestions below!)

The criteria are:
  1. Full controller support.
  2. Any game that will run on a Win 10 PC with a GTX 760 (Steam is not a requirement).

*cough* retro arcade gaming *cough*

If only I could persuade her to give that a go. The pixelated graphics are putting her off though. :(

4 Player Turtles is always fun. :D

You mean TNMT on Steam?

Lego games are good too.

Great suggestion - I'd completely forgotten about the Lego series, even though we played one of the Lego Star Wars games on the Wii back in the day.

Stardew Valley coop mod (official coop coming soon)

Co-op??

I had no idea - thanks for letting me know!

I must admit I'm intrigued by Stardew Valley, even though I never played any of the Harvest Moon games. So many 5-star reviews can't be wrong. Incredible to think that it was made by 1 guy.

Lego games

Spot on. Adding the Star Wars + LOTR Lego games to the shopping basket now. ;)

The Wolf Among Us
Game of Thrones
The Walking Dead
Minecraft Story Mode

Ah yes, we played The Walking Dead a couple of years ago - good, clean family entertainment. :D

I had no idea Telltale Games have been so busy since then (although we did stumble upon Tales from the Borderlands in the Winter sale - I'm looking forward to seeing if it's up to the usual standards).

Dreamfall Chapters

Never Alone (Great indie platform/adventure game)

Limbo and Inside (puzzle/platform/adventure games)

All of these games look ace - thanks a lot! Which reminds me that I ought to add The Longest Journey to the list. It's supposed to be a classic but we never got round to playing it.

Her story is a good one to play together. A very good game and its different to most of the co op experiences you will have

Thanks! I completely missed that one.

I actually read the rave reviews it got on iOS when it was released back in 2015(?), made a note that I ought to play it, and forgot all about it.

I didn't realise it was on Steam now, so it's going straight in the shopping basket. I've got a feeling the Mrs will love it. :)

I play the Lego games with the mrs, pretty fun.

I've only added the Star Wars and LOTR Lego games so far, but there's also Batman, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, Marvel, Jurassic World and Indiana Jones.

Lego is really franchising the hell out of popular culture these days. :p

Any favourites on that list or are they all good fun?

The Longest Journey, and Dreamfall:The Longest Journey are excellent games. They are both available on Steam. I think they are point and click only though (Ages since I played them), so you would need to hook a Mouse up.

Speaking of excellent point and click games, there is also the Syberia series if you also happened to have missed them as well :D

And of course the 3rd installment in the series is due Q1 2017 (Fingers crossed)
