Could a faulty PSU cause this problem

Just got my new SSD today,

Had a lot of problems getting it to install, windows would reboot with my GTX 570 hooked up ended up having to play about and use annother PCI-E power connector to get it to even work with the gtx 570.

It now boots up fine but When i try to open up other Hard-drives to copy across my files it restarts as soon as I click a file.

If i use an older less powerful card I dont get the same problems? I dont have any issues If i use my setup without the SSD.

I've got the following setup

i7 930.
Gigabyte-ga-x58-usb3
EVGA gtx570
Crucial M4 64Gb ssd.
Samsung spinpoint f3 1tb.
FSP Everest 1010W PSU.

Any ideas i'm stumped

Unfortunately not at the moment. I've already taken it to the store I bought it from but they say its fine and not faulty.

Have you tried booting without the other hard drives plugged in? Maybe see if that's what is causing the problem?

I can boot with one HDD plugged in + the ssd, the second has my other windows install which I dont want to erase yet.

Ok with no HDD and my gtx 570 I cant even install windows.

With my ancient x600 GPU It installs fine, can have both HDD in fine. Can access them fine.

Ok quick update,

With the old GPU I can do everything I could want on the system except game on it.

Which makes me think, the SSD is causing the PSU to use more power than It can support since its crap.

Look like I need a new PSU

I assume you mean your new GTX 570 GPU.

SSD's use very little power, a little less than HDs. On the other hand, GTX 570... They like a bit of juice.

When you buy PSU's, just don't believe the advertised 'wattage', especially from crapola brands. Look at the actual specs.

You should get yourself a reliable 650W, from Corsair / XFX / Antec... That's around £70. The OCZ StealthXStream 600W will power a GTX 570, although I'm not sure if it has all the connectors natively (2 x 8 pin PCI-E connectors required?).

yea lol I'm just not certain wither or not I need to buy a new PSU incase its not that, but using a lower power gpu I dont get this problem.

yea needs 2 6pin pci-e. Although I'd like the extra room for SLI will that suit?

The stealthxstream has one six pin PCI-E and one six plus two, so if you only need two six pins it will have all the required connectors.

Seem to have gotten it sorted,

I recently updated to the latest Bios for my Mobo... downgraded to the last bios and it works... makes me think i've a funny motherboard
