ok, got a customers computer at work that someone got built for them by someone at their work. when it came in the cpu was being underclocked to something like 1.6GHz (even on 100% load so not just non-turbo mode) and the ram setting were a bit random too. so i set bios to optimized settings and set the ram to the XMP profile.
specs are :
X58-USB3
i7 950
6 x 2GB Corsair XMS3
Nvidia GTX480
Corsair CX600
WD20EARS 2TB
Maxtor Diamondmax21 320GB
Segate Barracuda 320GB
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus9 160GB
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

he has had it BSOD just after the windows welcome screen. we had it running all day yesturday without error. i ran through 3dmark vantage several time, OCCT for over 4 hours and memtest for another couple of hours. so cutomser took pc home as we assumed it must be something he has connected. first startup he gets a BSOD so he ring us, i ask whats connected and he says monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse. got him to remove the wireless keyboard and mouse and restart it, no BSOD. he restarted it 10-15times without error, so we thought, must be a driver issue with that. so he brings it back in, and we get BSOD without them connected :(
thing is, the BSOD codes are different.
we are getting :
0x0000001A - Memory
0x00000027 - Memory
0x0000000A - Memory/Driver
0x0000003B - GFX/Memory

i have set the bios to failsafe settings and still get the errors, albeit intermittantly, but OCCT errors. set the ram to the XMP profile again and OCCT runs fine.

like i said, not 100% sure where the best place to post this was as i dont know if its a ram, cpu, mobo, gfx or driver issue.
thanks in advance.

In my experience, random errors such as the ones you've described are usually attributable to ram issues.Try swapping it all out for modules you know to work.

i ran memtest for a good few hours yesturday. it did a good 3 or so cycles and no issues at all. like i said, all day i had no BSOD it was runing really well, it wasnt until he took it home it started, and if i set the ram to XMP profile then i stop getting the BSOD here. its a wierd one.

ok getting errors on memtest now the XMP profile is off. HELP!!!!! does this mean a faulty stick, or a bad setting?

If Memtest is giving you errors then you have faulty RAM. How many dims are installed as I would suggest trying one at a time in conjunction with Memtest to isolate the faulty one.

6 sticks. going through them one by one now. the ram is 9-9-9-24 1.65v, but the bios on auto the bios is running them at 8-8-8-20 1.5v. could this be the problem?

It's certainly possible if the RAM is not getting sufficient voltage that it could become unstable so set the voltage and timings manually before you go any further.

does this cover every setting in the gigabyte mobo?

Does the BIOS display the recommended SPD settings? If so, try setting the values manually to match.

no the bios is displaying 8-8-8-20, until i turn on the XMP profile and then its right. the voltage with XMP on is 1.69v (or 1.65v cant remember) but when you go to the voltage settings in the bios the ram is still set to 1.5v is this normal?

all sticks passed memtest on 1 cycle each with bios default settings. if i turn XMP on then all the settings are as the should and it says the freq is 1600.
