could be anything so not sure where to post this

tried every setting i can think of with the ram and memtest is now erroring every time (sometimes on the second cycle) so removing 3 sticks to see if its just a case the mobo dont like all 6 slots being used.

As I said, swap all sticks out and replace with one you know works. If this solves the issue then it's new ram time, assuming your trial of individual sticks yields the same results.

left it running with just the 3 sticks of ram in overnight so will see how it is when i get into work later. i have a feeling its not faulty ram but the type of ram. its supposed to be 1600MHz, which the gigabyte motherboard does not support, so i am thinking that the timings are just not working right. we have some 1333MHz ram so if the three sticks error then will stick them in as i ran the same type with my i7 build when i had it without issues.

It is not 1600Mhz RAM, it is 1333Mhz RAM which has been overclocked and tested by Corsair who claim it will run stably using the XMP profile, which is an overclocked profile.

An XMP profile is not guaranteed to run stably, hence why I suggested finding out the SPD settings and sticking to those. The problem is limited information from Corsair on what the SPD settings are, Corsair suggests 1333Mhz 9-9-9-24, but gives no indication of voltage required or other timings.

CPU-Z can give more info on SPD settings, which you could try. Instead of putting in other 1333Mhz RAM, run the current memory at 1333Mhz, then when it is stable you can try and overclock using the XMP profile as a guide.
