i have a sky hd box i need connecting up via wireless. my router is upstairs.
could i use my old netgear router to plug into the sky box and make it communicate with the router upstairs so i theory my sky box would have wifi for on demand.
would this be an access point? is this even possible?

It's possible, but it will depend on what model the router is and its capabilities. Post some more details and someone may be able to help you.

For the sake of c.£20 I'd either use Powerline adapters or Sky's own Wireless connector and avoid the hassle.

by a powerline adapter set that would be easiest option.

1st - Plug into socket and Lan cable to Sky box
2nd - Plu innto socket upstairs and cable into router

I use a similar setup for LoveFilm for Tv in bedroom
