Could i use my 360, Wii and Sky box with this?

IMO, there is little point in either of those.

Get the PS3 and upgrade the HD if you have to. TV add on is just around the corner so you'll be able to record to the HD with that. Just get a decent AV Receiver with 3 (really) HDMI inputs and an HDMI output and some decent speakers.

It will have to be on all the time though if you want to hear all of the things attached to it.

No point buying the Philips when the PS3 can play BR discs and will be updated accordingly and the 360 can stream everything else as its a media extender.
 
Ok... sooo if i buy a PS3... what speaker system would you suggest. I want to be able to use any of the above with them plugged in at all times?
 
Yup, You'll still need to budget for the AV receiver too. This basically means you can connect everything to one box, then from this, HDMI or S-Vid or component out to the TV.

Speakers, well, personal choice and preference comes in here. You'll see a lot of threads where people say things like "Yer, AV amp = £300, speakers = £800 for some good ones".

What a pile of tosh. Speakers cost very very little to make, regardless of their materials, certainly nowhere near the same price bracket as an AV amp. Your speakers, no matter how good they are will always only be as good as the source signal supplied to them.

Kef KHT1005.2 are very very good speakers at around £399, but I've seen and heard equally impressive results from the Tannoy FX5.1 range at £299.

You don't need to spend more than this on speakers. Just make sure you get a competent AV receiver like an Onkyo.
 
The Onkyo is king and I have the same issues as you re-looks but they look a lot nicer in the flesh.

Samsung is very nice. Will also work with your TV from the one remote (Look up Samsung AnyNet). Also, has 2 HDMI in and i believe 1 HDMI out. That means one of your devices will have to connect via component, but thats no biggy, but the same goes for the Onkyo.

Choice is yours my friend. You can pop in to a local Richer and ask to demo them. They are normally pretty helpful

Although the specs on the Onkyo are better if you are a true HD fan, you'd probably be mightly impressed with either unit.
 
The Onkyo will also decode the newer HD Audio formats without having to have them converted into PCM first although at present players such as the PS3 dont stream the audio natively anyway although Sony have promised that as part of a future firmware update I believe.

As for speakers have a look at the Q-Acoustics 1010i 5.1 package, you can pick it up for £450 online and there are a lot of places offering good deals with the speakers bundled with that Onkyo and some cables and other goodies thrown in too. Just remember to budget for some half-decent stands or wall brackets and you're pretty much done.
 
ok matey, well my Wii is Component but my Sky + is currently SCART and eventually i would want HD. My 360 is currently VGA but is HDMI compatible and my PS3 (soon) will be HDMI.

Will this be ok to get sound for all 4 components or not?
 
I’ve being looking at the Samsung receiver as I have an Samsung Plasma so the anynet feature and controlling the unit with my TV remote is the big bonus for me, I like local to an RS so will probably will pop in and check the Samsung AVR720 unit out :D What speakers would you suggest to go with the unit? Must be black or darkish in colour.

try out the Tannoy range mentioned above although they are 5.1 and the Sammy can handle 7.1. The same range is offered in silver and black and also, a third option in black with a larger centre speaker (rectangular instead of circular satellite).
 
£150 dearer for the Onkyo 605 ... than the Samsung...

yet the 605 has the true HD but the Samsung on its website says through HDMI that it has HD via Blu Ray etc...

Which would be ideally best for long term? I will be keeping my tele for a while providing it lasts touch wood.
 
ahh, the video signal will be HD in both. Its the audio signal we're talking about. The onkyo doesnt need to decode it, the samsung does. Its hard to call as a lot of people would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Do you have a RS near you? You need to go and have a listen. What I think sounds great is normally accurate :p, but you just never know. ;)
 
yes... theres one about 30 minutes away. But to be honest this is me and i have a £40 Logitech 5.1 setup for my PC and i think that sound's magnificent! (that cost £40.00)

Im looking Value for money to be honest. is it worth the Extra £150 for the dolby TRUE HD

Samsung is better value for money and will fit in with your TV better. I'd probably opt for the Samsung if I really had to choose something in this budget
