Could not connect to Steam network

Really weird one here... if I access the store page via firefox then it starts working (for awhile) in the steam client but after awhile back to error -118 but again if I browse to the store page in firefox it starts working in steam... makes absolutely no sense.

Its definitely BT, I tried via VPN on my dedicated server and that works fine.

Did you try changing your dns server settings as I outlined a few posts above?, try that as a temporary fix then you can go back to using bt's dns servers after they fix the issue.

I've already got non-BT DNS servers specified on the router - tho I've got BT ones in the list to not sure what order is being used off hand but if one fails it should use another.

This seems to have happened about the same time BT started Onlive services (and the free 3 months deal they have). There is some deal between Onlive and BT I know, I'm not saying this is responsible, but it may mean there is more traffic than usual and BT are trying to cut down the biggest bandwidth offenders, but failing and wiping off service instead.

That actually wouldn't suprise me, BT have had problems with Steam and traffic management before - for several months if you were being capped at peak time and steam started downloading anything during peak time it would wipe out all other internet traffic on your connection.
