Could really use some help with this...

Any GTX970 should be able to SLI with any other GTX970, the only thing that would cause issues is mismatched VRAM sizes and every GTX970 is 4GB (on paper).

As has been said try the FTW+ alone to check it's not duff.

The only difference between a FTW and FTW+ is the new ACX 2.0+ cooler.
 
Motherboard BIOs update would be the next thing you should try then. Also make sure drivers are up to date.

Could also be a power issue, system specs?
 
Don't think it's a power issue - it's a great 1200watt corsair psu, which I got incase I wanted to add anything at a later date. I will try and add the system specs later when I can..is there a command line thing I can type (like dxdiag) to create a list?
