Could someone clear this up for me?

All over.
Hi, I bought the Geil Ultra DDR 6400 Cas 4 kit from OCuk this week. On Cpu-z and everest it's saying that the memory is DDR2 667 PC5300 RAM. Why does it say that? Does it mean that the memory modules I have aren't PC6400 but 5300??

Could this be why I can't change my timings to 4-4-4-12 from 5-5-5-15, without the computer rebooting on me?

What should I do?

Many thanks.

I guess your problem is your motherboard.

Try the RAM in different slots and also check that you have the latest BIOS.

Check the manufacturers website for timings and voltages (voltages are the important one). The RAM chips may be the same but to use it at 6400 speeds with those timings might require more voltage.

Try one stick at a time then if they both are OK try swapping them to different slots. Post back what happens and the rest of your kit.

Just tried single sticks and swapping around with them to avail.

Do you want me to take a picture of my BIOS?

You may need to lower the System Memory Multiplier a notch as it's running at 470MHz (940 DDR) speeds.

Edit: Also you've probably reached the point where you need to increase Vcore as well to get more from the CPU.

Edit: Reduce the System Memory Multiplier right down and see how far the CPU/FSB can go otherwise you won't know which one isn't stable.

2.00 is the lowest it goes.

All those settings are as it's stable right now.

When I drop the timings, I increased the Vcore to 1.38V, increase the VDIMM 0.425V to 2.29V.

I also increase the MCH another 0.05V.

Still it's not stable.

Well if you can't lower the memory divider anymore it looks like that's as far as you'll get unless you get RAM that can run at higher frequencies. You could slacken the timings further but I doubt it'll make much difference.

I guess there won't be that much difference between CAS 5 and CAS 4 in normal computer usage/games. I think I might try the F3B BIOS. Just need to know where I can download it.

from what I read on Geils site is that the spd on their moduals are set for pc5300 to enable a greater compatiblity for first boot, they recommend that you then set the timings your self

all i have done is set the freq tp 800 hz and the mobo now reports pc6400 as it should

Ok, after installing the F3B BIOS, I've loaded up CPU-z and my CAS latency is now set at 3. With timing of 3-5-5-15.

I'm just testing the RAM now.

Should I put it back to 5-5-5-15 or something else?

Edit: CPU-z says it's at 3-5-5-15. But the BIOS says it's 5-5-5-15. :/
